Ophelia attempted to speak, but nothing came out, She persisted in trying, but to no avail, and a peculiar sensation that she hadn’t anticipated experiencing-combined with shock and panic-started to consume her
spirit.
Nikolai.
To be completely honest, she tried but couldn’t call that name, though she
came close.
He made the word call. “Mate.” Was she not his mate? Why, then, was he gazing at… She fixed her eyes on him then focused on his attention. Skyla
Flores.
He gave her an intense look, but she was unable to identify the emotions that were in his eyes. She wasn’t going to.
Skyla was intensely focusing on him, just like he was, and Ophelia could see a slight blush forming on her cheeks as she got closer.
WHAT?!
How did events change so abruptly in this direction? How did Skyla become his mate overnight and not her?
She was deeply hurt. Why would he refer to another person as his mate?
“Alpha.” Skyla called, addressing him with a soft and charming tone as she bowed her head.
Ophelia’s lips split in utter disbelief as she glanced at Skyla, who was

innocently batting her eyes, and then back at Nikolai, who was fixedly gazing at her with that solemn expression on his face.
Oh no way!
Was she in a nightmare? She felt like she was.
“I wasn’t anticipating your presence here.” Ophelia gave Skyla the side eye as she continued in that tiny, innocent tone.
Nikolai remained silent.
Her scent was simply too overpowering in a way that it was trying to erase Ophelia from his mind. Fortunately, he instinctively tore his eyes away from the witch and stared at his future bride, who was glaring at the witch
with murder intent.
Golden scales were forming beneath her eyes, and her eyes were becoming dangerously sharp with displeasure.
At that precise moment, Nikolai’s solemn demeanor changed. He ran to her and drew her close, but she gripped his cloak grasping tightly and shot him that ferocious, bone-chilling gaze.
He swallowed, feeling incredibly terrified. So terrified that he felt goosebumps.
Although she was silent, her eyes were screaming at him in a number of
different directions.
“I can explain.”
“Can you?” Ophelia questioned angrily, her lips curling into a sneer. “You
better.”
Sasha, who was stroking her achy neck, stared at the couple intently, She was anticipating a major drama.
Actually, she had scheduled this meeting to find out whether Skyla was

truly Nikolai’s second mate, However, he had made the biggest error of all by being unable to restrain himself from calling another, his mate in the presence of his beloved Ophelia.
Skyla, meanwhile, puzzledly regarded the couple. She was so overcome with jealousy right away that she even startled herself.
She became angry and depressed upon seeing them together. Why on earth did she feel like she owned Nikolai? She looked in closer, noticing the way he stared at Ophelia.
He had been staring at her previously with a solemn look, but she was astounded by how his expressions were altering along with Ophelia.
She recalled what had happened on the night of the coronation; Nikolai had taken her to a quiet spot in the hallway and held her neck until she passed
out.
She didn’t comprehend it and had been considering meeting with him to clarify any miscommunications that might have existed between them.
She was aware of rumors. The alpha was obsessed with a dragon, the alpha cohorts with dragons. These were the news that stuck in her head, aside from his gruesome deeds of killing multiple people with a single snap of his fingers.
All of them were true.
Alpha Nikolai was genuinely enamored with a dragon, and that dragon was… Exceptionally gorgeous.
She seemed to be a hot-headed person, and the way she spoke revealed that she was calculative. Her hold on Nikolai’s cloak and the glare she gave him also revealed that she was possessive.
Was there going to be a competition?
Skyla aspired to stoke Nikolai’s embers. He had after all referred to her as

his mate.
“Are you going to explain, or not?” Ophelia yanked his cloak and questioned aggressively.
Nikolai took Ophelia’s wrist and firmly gripped it, crooning, “Just calm down Ophelia.”
“Calm down?!” Ophelia bellowed. Did he really just ask that? “You just called your mate, who is someone else! Right in front of me!”
Ophelia experienced the sensation of a dagger piercing her heart. She was in such pain, that much was clear.
As soon as he realized this, Nikolai felt terrible. The fact that he was at a loss for what to say or do to soothe her down made him feel even worse. When she slowly released her hold on his cloak, he felt worse because of the displeasure streaming from her eyes and the disbelief and anger in her words.
“Let go of me.” She muttered, averting his gaze and he slowly did. “Do you think this is a joke to you? You referred to her as your mate without hesitation. You didn’t even acknowledge or seem to care that I was there! It was almost as if I had vanished from your world. Even if you were going to call her that, do it while I’m not around so it won’t hurt as much as it does right now.”
Those comments made Nikolai’s heart ache, and his chest hurt. His entire existence was filled with guilt and regret.
He softly called, “Ophelia,” and grabbed her hands, but she wrenched away right away.
Ophelia gave him a snarl. “Accept that you forgot about me.”
