Silence.1
While Nikolai maintained his eerie, unsteady smile, Sasha was attempting to digest what he had said and Maria and Danil appeared astonished.
“What the hell are you talking about! Playing detective right now, are you? It doesn’t suit you!” Danil shouted, breaking the unnerving silence. He let go of his mother when he felt her wiggle free of his hold, enabling her to take a strong stance.
A single action. He only needed to make one action to thrust his blade deep into Nikolai’s heart and into his chest.
He cast a quick glance at his mother, whose tense expression showed that Nikolai’s words had seriously affected her. He couldn’t, of course, blame her. Even though she was the Beta’s wife, Maria usually chose to stay out of the political disputes in their family as well as those involving Celestia. She concentrated on her responsibilities of setting up the castle, enjoying tea with her friends, and attending parties and balls.
Everyone knew this. Including Nikolai who was pointing fingers.
“I’m playing a detective, but I’m a killer detective. Most of my adversaries live behind the walls of this castle, and I want to eliminate them all.”
Looking distant and bored, Nikolai said.
“Nikolai, I am aware of your animosity toward this family, but you cannot simply blame me for a suicide case.” Maria said, her tone hard, her
expression turning elegantly stern.
“Why do you have a slight sensation of dark magic if you don’t want me to implicate you?” Nikolai questioned with a harsh tone, “You cannot
possibly refute my assertions by claiming that I am mistaken.”

“I will only believe that you are acting in this way out of boredom if Sasha is unable to sense the magic you speak of.” Maria retorted.
“Oh?” Nikolai questioned, biting his tongue. “Boredom, you say.”
“I genuinely don’t detect any dark magic from her, Nikolai.” said Sasha. She was at least expected to feel something, even if it was an ancient enchantment. Notwithstanding how small.
She was abruptly struck by Nikolai’s look, which brought to mind what had transpired earlier with Ophelia and Skyla. Her body started to stiffen up. He was upset with her!
Nikolai turned his back on her and moved in the direction of Maria before
putting his hands in his coat pocket. “Anything that happens to my subjects, I’m obligated to defend them, aren’t I?”
“Yes. Your role is to act as the Alpha.” Maria said with a formal yet graceful
bow.
Nikolai nearly rolled his eyes in irritation as she continued to act in such a stupid manner. She was a snake, and he had excellent snake-spotting skills because he himself was a snake. They were all snakes that he could readily consume and crush. Like him, they were all souls with sinister objectives. Although he wasn’t supposed to care, it turned out that their objectives were related to him. Innocent Nikolai.
“Role?” He snorted. “You make it sound tedious. Maria.”
Although she was apprehensive, Maria smiled shakily. He called her name with an attitude of malice.
“As the good detective Alpha I am, I was feeding my guardian beast in the kitchen while debating whether or not to trim my hair for my wedding.” He started to ogle the chandelier over him. “Then a maid entered the kitchen, appearing startled as if she had witnessed a ghost, but it was

clear that she had suffered abuse.”
“Abuse? But, there wasn’t a scar discovered on her body.” Sasha muttered. Before it was removed to be buried, she had looked into the body.
“Sasha, my sweetheart. Abuse doesn’t just involve beating someone. Trust me when I say that words are a weapon and are sharper than knives.” Nikolai added cynicism to those statements, which were entirely
reasonable.
“What are you trying to say?” Danil enquired furiously.
Maria was having trouble keeping her exquisite smile now as Nikolai smiled menacingly in her direction. He desired to remove her mask.
“Anyway, when she saw me, she was frightened, and since I didn’t care about her, I didn’t ask what was wrong; instead, I simply instructed her to take anything she wanted. After leaving the kitchen with a loaf of bread, bam! It was reported to me ten minutes later that she had committed suicide.” Nikolai snipped.
“I’m not sure where you’re going with this, Alpha.” Maria spoke in a
lowered voice.
Nikolai began singing “Maria,” his smile widening, but it soon disappeared, and his eyes blazed like a storm let loose. “Ever since I was a young child, I have known you to be the kind of person who mistreats his servants and assigns them tasks that are always beyond their capabilities. Instead of striking them, you use your words to stab them, crushing their soul and draining them of all life’s significance.”
Maria choked and collapsed to her knees. “I.. beg your mercy!”
Nikolai pursed his lips. “Why should I?”
Sasha was truly shocked. Did this also imply that Nikolai wasn’t the one guiding the maids to their deaths all those years ago?

Mother!” Danil yelled indignantly “Why even bother with them peasants! All they do is work for us. They assist us! They have no value because they are slaves! Why are you so touched by whatever they are feeling when their lives are meaningless?”
Nikolai remained silent and didn’t even look at Danil. Instead, he kept his eyes fixed on the person who was kneeling in front of him. That was how Maria really felt about the maids, in all those things that Danil had spewed. She regarded them solely as peasants, slaves, and useless… He tightened his fists.
“Now I am Alpha.” Declared Nikolai. “Unfortunately for you, I am very different from you. Alexander must have seen past your outward behavior because he shares your philosophy. Either you agree to cease mistreating the slaves and treat them like the living beings they are, or your position as the castle arranger will be stripped from you.”
“I.. I..” Maria stumbled nervously.
Nikolai unleashed his strong aura, a strong dominant aura. Sasha and
