“N..Nik?” She stuttered and took a deep breath to calm herself. “Can you explain what you mean?” ”

“Yes, I have been away for a week. However, why am I unable to find my wife?” Nikolai asked again, this time raising his brows.

Sasha fussed through her hair. “Wait… Wait… Wait… You pushed her away.”

Nikolai nodded. “Yes, I did.”

“Then you departed.”

Nikolai nodded yet again. “In your care. As usual. That being said, Artem informed me that Albert passed away during the previous week. I should have been there; I apologize for your loss. My mother…”

“Where have you been, Nikolai?” Sasha approached him, asking sharply

this time.

“Hell.” Nikolai responded, his eyes dimming, his voice deep.

Sasha took a deep breath. “What is happening?”

“Where is Ophelia?” Getting to his feet, Nikolai snarled.

Sasha stepped back, exhaling deeply. “She went to see Alina and the red moon witches…”

Nikolai’s gaze grew ominously sharp. “Why did you allow her to escape your sight?!” He roared.

Sasha shuddered. “I did not realize there was so much going on at that time!”

Nikolai’s pupils dilated. This was not what he had anticipated when he made the decision to push Ophelia away! “I… goddess! I had faith in you!”

“I am sorry… I assumed you were aware and…”

Nikolai took hold of her neck, lifting her off the ground. “I trusted you with her life! She is in that dreadful place! It is exactly what I have been trying to avoid!”

“I..” Sasha struggled to speak.

Nikolai snarled and let her go, dropping her to the ground on her feet.

She rubbed her neck, breathing heavily, tears welling up in her eyes. “I am sorry! I had no idea…! I acknowledge that nobody can truly know what is going through your head, but that does not excuse my error.”

Nikolai hissed through his teeth. “You all ought to depart right away after I bring her back here.”

“If you love her this much, why did you threaten and push her away?” Sasha questioned, looking at him aghast.

Though he remained silent, his expression softened slightly.

Sasha called again, “Nikolai,” hoping to get a response. “Father passed away unexpectedly, Alina demonstrated that she is Tiana’s accomplice, and during the past week, there has been an awful amount of silence that has been depleting all of my energy. I feel scared and helpless. You can not just stand there and take all the shots, that is not how you do things.”

Nikolai’s face hardened, his gaze fixed on Sasha, who appeared to be in great distress. “This is no longer a battle between mortals. If death is inevitable, it is better that one of us survives.”

Sasha shook her head, disagreeing with his words. “That is not a decision you can make on your own! What if she is contemplating the same thing?”

“Then I will erase her memory of me once again.”

“Nikolai!!” Sasha shrieked.

Nikolai’s gaze grew wide.

“This is a completely different story! I understand… You went away to clear your mind and shape whatever plan you have, and you returned expecting to see your wife, but does her absence not prove something? If the sunstone is intended to be used against her, Celestia is not the only place facing war!”

Nikolai’s eyes darkened. “You believe I am ignorant?”

Sasha took a deep breath in. “Stop it, Nikolai. You can not let Tiana use you as a puppet.”

“She can decide to use it even now, Sasha.”

Sasha could feel her body trembling. She shook her head, tears streaming down her cheeks. “All right, that makes sense. So how come I can not find her if she is in the castle? I have attempted numerous spells, including ghost locating spells, but to no avail. I can not watch you…”

Nikolai embraced her tightly, cutting her words short.

“Stop.” Shutting his eyes, he took a breath. “Please stop.”

Sasha froze, her eyes wide. She broke down in tears, crying

uncontrollably. “This is not something you can accomplish. You simply cannot! You cannot do this!”

“I wish to change my fate. Change my fate of being the child of doom. You can not tell me to stop.”

“This is not how it is done!” Sasha sobbed. “I have already lost my father! I can not afford to lose you.”

“Depart with Ophelia. Keep her hidden and safe.”

Sasha sobbed even harder, more incensed that he was ignoring her words.

“Being the villain who causes destruction for protection is preferable to being the villain who causes destruction out of needless hatred. I will be mindless, though.” Sasha was left feeling even more pained by Nikolai’s words, which he muttered while laughing.

“Please listen to me.” Sasha whispered as she clung to him.

Nikolai remained silent. Before she had a chance to speak further, he broke off, yanking her hands away from him, and vanished.

She collapsed to her knees, screaming uncontrollably. She felt like she was going to die from the regret taking over her heart.

Still, regardless of the negative feelings that were overwhelming her soul, something was growing in her spirit. Something more powerful. She had no intention of giving up on her family! Never again!

Back in the training ground, Vladimir was alone, lost in meditation while hanging upside down on a tree branch. The tranquility of the

surroundings made him smile. It was so peaceful that he wished the moment could last forever.

Sadly, Nikolai appeared in front of him. “Awaken.”

Vladimir groaned lethargically as he flipped off the branch and came to rest on his feet. “I missed you.”

Nikolai’s eyes hardened. “How long have you known?”

“Ever since you murdered her, why?” Vladimir asked, his brow furrowed.

“And you remained silent?” Nikolai asked, his face grave.

Vladimir heaved a breath. “Would you rather I die from a heart attack or a lightning strike?”

“Both.” Nikolai deadpanned.

Vladimir gave him an incredulous look. “Where were you when she murdered my father?!”

“My demon state was becoming increasingly unstable. I had to leave immediately, or else I would have done something I would later regret.” Nikolai muttered.

Vladimir nodded, clearly understanding. “You should not push her away,

Nik.”

“I have no options.” Nikolai strained a smile.

“What you are doing is foolish.”

“It is killing two birds with one stone.”

“Breaking your mind and Celestia is not killing two birds with one stone! Is it so difficult for you to acknowledge that you are attempting to keep us all safe?” Vladimir scuffed, tears welling up in his eyes. “You are a real jerk. I beg you not to do this. Your demon state is unstable, and the blood pearl have been altered; if they mix, there will be no saving you.”

Nikolai sighed profoundly. “How far are you able to see?”

“Chaos surrounds them all at the end. Either Ophelia is dead in your arms, or you are dead in hers. This has to stop.”

Nikolai forced a smile. “That is the issue. It has been unavoidable ever since I cheated death.” And then he was gone, leaving Vladimir in tears.
