37 Golden dragon eyes
Ophelia’s heart dropped to her stomach. Her hands shook, and she lost her composure. Staring at the dragon on his back, its golden eyes, she recognized herself. ↑

Sensing her dread, Nikolai turned to face her and he let his hair fall freely
onto his back.
“This…” She gulped. “This is how deep the connection is..?”
Nikolai said nothing. What was there to say? Was he supposed to apologize? This revelation was bound to happen. Obviously.
She dropped her head. Silently, she bent down and began to pick the glass fragments, her thoughts completely blank as she did so. She didn’t want to think, she didn’t want to say anything.
Sighing in frustration, she took the glass in her hands. “I won’t go to sleep till you respond to my questions.”
“Hmm?”
Ophelia sighed once more and raised her gaze to him. “I…”
She paused. Her heart this time moved from her stomach to her throat as she started to scrutinize him, noticing the tattoos on his muscular arms. From his broad shoulders, to his hard chest down to a solid set of abs. He still had his pants on, and she was relieved they weren’t the slim–fitting variety. Those legs were long and slender. Did he exercise while in Nexus?
Even though she hadn’t yet collected all the glass, she rose up, cleared her throat, and then moved over it to approach him.
“Questions are piling up.” She managed to say.

Nikolai’s lips curled into a devious smile. “Took you long enough to speak, I thought you were going to keep staring.”
Ophelia’s face turned red and she instantly took a step away from him. “Hurry up!” She turned away and walked back to picking the glass.
Breathing deeply, she began to separate the glass from the spilled porridge carefully, when she heard a loud ruffle that made her heart skip.
Was he removing his…
“Gods!” She breathed out then inhaled deeply to stop her mind from going
wild.
Again, she continued picking out the shards when this time she heard a serene splash of water and a deep manly sigh.
“Hell no!” Ophelia erupted, her face red as a tomato.
Deciding to leave the broken glasses on the floor, she stood up, hurried out of the bathroom, and leapt straight into the bed, hiding her face in the blanket. She was beginning to understand that sharing a bedroom with a being with whom she had a strong connection was not a good idea.
Her heart was racing. She remembered his tattoos, particularly the dragon tattoo, and rose up, pushing her hair out of her face.
A black dragon that possessed golden eyes. There was no question that it wasn’t her, albeit it could be anyone. She knew it was her taken from how sharp those eyes were. Ophelia had been told by Sheldon right from the moment he started training her that she was the most powerful golden dragon to be born in the last millennium. Despite never having engaged her father in a direct fight, she was aware that she was even more powerful than him. Compared to most golden dragon eyes, hers were more piercing and ferocious. They appeared lethal, like a warrior out for blood and glory.

What she couldn’t figure out was why she was on Nikolai’s back. Did he visit a body artist? She’d seen tattooed men before, but his were unique, and the fact that they fitted him worried her.
While she awaited Nikolai to emerge from the bathroom, she fiddled with her fingers and pursed her lips.
Seconds became minutes, minutes became hours, and she soon fell
asleep, spreading her hands and legs across the bed while her hair rested on her face.
A typical starfish.
Opening her eyes, she looked around to see herself back in Fireria. The
corridor was in ruins, with infinite cracks and brokenness.
Of course, another nightmare.
Feeling a brazen painful heat at her back, Ophelia winced, took a step away and turned to face the wall of flames once again.
“You have failed to heed my words!” The voice thundered.
Ophelia let out a long sigh. “I want to put a stop to a brewing war, and I have told you that I am in charge of my own destiny.”
“You have no idea! Your fate was written even before you were created! Defying it will only cause you and those around you unending pain.”
Ophelia froze. Her eyes twitched. “Is that a threat?”
“You can interpret it as a threat, but know this, Nikolai Novikov is not your fate. You’re simply meant to cross paths, not be together.”
“Then, how come I am his mate? What about that tattoo?” Ophelia enquired. Was he so fixated on her that he hired a body artist to draw

her?
Ophelia’s pupils dilated. It had been a long time since she had transformed into her dragon form. He had never seen her in her dragon form, she was
certain. It was impossible. It was!
