Her eyes sparkled with bright gold before glinting in their hazel gray form. On the clear, solid steel of the dagger, she enjoyed gazing at her reflection. Trailing her thumb on the steel, her thoughts started to stray.
Arriving at Celestia… Living days without training… eating enough food… she felt perfectly normal, despite being in the land of wolf shifters and a castle inhabited by pure blooded lycans.

a entered with two more servants behind her as the door opened. hough their heads were bowed, Ophelia was more startled by the maids’ rival than by Sasha, who was wearing a glum expression.
One of the maids was holding a white dress.
Ophelia stood up. “What is happening?”
“Aren’t you attending the birthday ball?” Raising an eyebrow, Sasha questioned.
“I can take care of myself.” Ophelia retorted.
Sasha pressed her lips. “Nikolai made the dress especially for you.” She nonchalantly revealed.
Ophelia was surprised. “What?”
“You’ll be

the servants.” Sasha said. “But do me a favor and do

Ophelia’s eyes fluttered, still in disbelief that Nikolai had made her a garment. “He picked out the dress…”
Sasha groaned. “Chosen or made, it doesn’t matter,”
With a slender smile, she approached Ophelia after taking the dress from the maid. “You will look stunning in it, I can assure you.”
“Will my brother be present?” Ophelia inquired, attempting to dodge Sasha’s unexpected compliment. She didn’t want any friends, and she certainly didn’t want to get to know the half-witch.
“He will, but I just hope he doesn’t cause a scene because he despises us much more than we despise dragons.” Sasha retorted, heaving a long sigh. “I just want to enjoy myself a bit tonight.”
Something was upsetting the lycan, which Ophelia realized right away. She let out a heavy sigh and turned to face the still-bowing maids. They made her feel incredibly uneasy.
She pulled at her brows. There was a reason why Nikolai did not enjoy being surrounded by servants. He had already stated that he trusted Sasha to take care of her. She wished to stay out of any sort of trouble.
“They don’t have to assist me get dressed; I can take care of myself.”
Sasha nodded. “Okay then.” And she turned to look at the maids, saying, “You may depart.”
They both lowered their heads at the same time, opened the door, and left the room, closing it behind them.
Sitting on the bed, Ophelia watched Sasha with interest. “Did something happen?”
“Well, there are two dragons in the castle, so yes, things are happening.” Sasha exhaled and set the dress down on Ophelia’s lap.

Setting her dagger on the dress, Ophelia feigned a grin. “Hurting my brother will not benefit you.”
Sasha snorted. “I’d rather not hurt him.” She then turned her head away. “I don’t want to interact with any of you dragons,”
“But here you are carrying out Nikolai’s orders.” Ophelia taunted.
“I don’t understand why he has faith in me with you,” Sasha inuttered. She
didn’t understand why. She didn’t anticipate his entrusting her with
omeone he liked, especially in light of what transpired between them three enturies earlier. She didn’t want to harm Ophelia by obeying Boris and Danil.
I’m relieved that he is focusing on his tasks as the soon to be crowned Alpha.” She sighed in content. “Alpha Alexander and Luna Alina must be throwing a lot of brides lists in his face.” She shook her head and smiled. Without a doubt, Nikolai would decline those proposals.
“Bride lists?” Surprised, Ophelia questioned.
Sasha gave her a smile. “I recommend dressing up; I’ll see you soon,” As she approached the door, she muttered.
As soon as she turned the door handle, she felt a presence in the space. An odd, strong presence that was distinctly noticeable.
“Do you really want to be my friend?” Ophelia asked out of the blue, and Sasha froze. “I can tell you care about Nikolai; else, you wouldn’t care about me so much. He didn’t threaten you to protect me, I’m sure of that.”
She smiled, “Maybe,” and flung open the door. “After all, he is my favorite relative.” She then turned around and left, shutting the door behind her, leaving Ophelia grinning amusedly and glancing at the entrance.
She glanced at the chair next to the bed, clutching the dress in her laps, and noticed that Pain was snoozing next to it. She grinned at his ability to be so

covert before turning her attention to the dress on her laps.
“Brides list?” Her voice was filled with uncertainty as she questioned. “But I
am his future bride.”
After a long, hot, minty bath, Ophelia dried her hair and put on the white dress, her face devoid of makeup. She realized she didn’t really have much in Nikolai’s room at that point, but was grateful for the big mirror. She was stunned a e stood in front of it and noticed how perfectly the garment
