84 Heartbreaking tales of love

84 Heartbreaking tales of love

Nikolai watched Ophelia eat. She took big nibbles and gently smiled with each swallow, her eyes sparkling with delight. His eyes dipped to her throat at every movement she made, then to her lips, which she licked slowly. She had eaten salad, sauced pork, porridge, and now she was consuming a bowl of soup. He had honestly never seen anyone eat as much as she did.

He was pleased to see that she was awake, alive, and present with him and he felt proud of himself for controlling his smiles.

When she was finished, he poured her a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and gave it to her. She drank it all and exhaled contentedly, beaming a happy smile at him.

“Whenever it comes to eating, you never cease to surprise me.” Carrying the tray of empty plates and bowls, he chuckled.

“It seems like days have passed since my last meal.” Ophelia mumbled, dabbing a napkin across her lips.

Her slender hands caught his attention. Those hands seemed brittle enough to break with the slightest movement. The fact that those hands were capable of using deadly weapons greatly astonished him. She was, after all, a skilled warrior.

“Why did you starve yourself so often?” As he set the tray on the nearby table, Nikolai inquired out of the blue.

Ophelia pushed off of the bed and embraced her body with her arms as she moved slowly in his direction. He straightened up and turned to look at her countenance, which included a hint of hesitancy.

“Have we ever met before, before the bizarre dream?” Suddenly, she questioned. Her curious and hesitant tone was evident in her light speech.

Nikolai was expressionless. He had made a lot of effort to prevent her from posing this query Goddess! Since the moonstone incident, Esmeralda had cultivated that idea in her mind.

Nikolai was aware that she wasn’t a simpleton. Ophelia had been waiting for the ideal moment to ask him this question.

“If we have, you must be aware of the way my father raised me, treating me weapon he must maintain because I am strong.” Knowing he wouldn’t

r her query, Ophelia attempted a grin, stifling a whisper. She was to answer him. “I started training non stop as soon as I took my first piling whips on my back every time I collapsed on the ground weary. saw to it that I received neither maid service or food as retribution for frailty. To be completely honest, I was coerced into becoming resilient against my will.”

She could tell that Nikolai was enraged with every word she said.

“It’s all over now, so don’t.” She raised her palm to his cheek and as he caught her wrist, her face broke into a smile.

Nikolai made a strained smile. “It is.” Dark thoughts began to swirl in his mind towards Rodion. Three hundred years had passed since Nikolai’s previous encounter with the dragon king, and Nikolai had made sure Rodion would never forget his face. “I ought to murder him.”

Ophelia’s eyes slightly broadened.

“Our marriage will be hampered by him.” Nikolai murmured introspectively, his eyes twinkling with mischief.

Ophelia’s hand trembled against his cheek. “Marriage?” Her voice grew

Ophelia was stunned. As she struggled to find the right words, her heart skipped a beat. Why was she feeling so anxious? .I.. Nik.”

“A week to settle everything.” Nikolai whispered, wrapping his arms around her body and pulling her close to him. She put her hands on his shoulders, one of them holding the napkin and the other his shirt.

“Aren’t we moving too quickly?” Ophelia questioned, averting her gaze. “You

n’t even made a proper proposal.”

ai tilted his head. “Yes, we are moving quickly.” He drew her in even er, gently pressing their chests against one another. When he noticed uncertain expression, he sighed. “I am aware of your concern regarding current situation. However, it won’t help us at all; instead, it will simply make things worse.”

“But still…”

“Ophelia.”

Ophelia raised her head and stared at him. He had a serious expression on his face that was both serene and truthful. Until he allayed her doubts and fears, he would not let her drift away from him.

“No matter what happens, we’ll protect each other, and no matter what anyone thinks, we’ll show each other warmth and affection. I understand that there will be dangers and challenges from both our families and the deities, but Ophelia, I want to be by your side till the end.”

Despite the difficult emotions that rumbled in his heart, Nikolai didn’t anticipate his voice to sound so light. He was familiar with heartbreaking tales of love. One belonged to both his parents and grandparents. Was he an exception? He recalled how Alexander would become furious with Alina out of regret for their union. He frequently claimed that she just brought him sorrow. And HE was the source of that anguish. He recalled how his

horrendously bad at it since she would constantly bemoan to him how she wished Alexander had never existed. She always went on to claim that HE was nothing more than a punishment for both of them.

However, his grandparents were completely madly in love; until their untimely deaths, which were connected to the dragons and set off the war that was still raging today, no one could break them apart. He had never seen them, though. Perhaps he did, but everyone seemed to be bragging about how impenetrable they were. How tragic.

I ignore the bizarre dream, the connected moles in both families, the warning about fate, and how every member of your family wants me d because they do not want your family bloodline to be corrupted in any ay.” With a quiet sigh, Ophelia concluded her speech.

Her parents immediately came to mind. Her young mother had been taken from her parents by her father, who had fallen in love with her, who then forced her to wed him. She delivered him five children, and as was to be expected, their family was not content. Her mother was traumatized and unable to properly raise her children. She was lacking in self-assurance and spent the majority of her days sobbing in her room or taking care of flowers that couldn’t survive the severe winter. She had no relationship with her children and was unable to shield them from her husband’s brutal assaults.

“Then, pay more attention to your heart than to my advice.” Nikolai snorted.

“I will.” Ophelia smiled, her heart warming at those words. This aspect of Nikolai was remarkably ordinary. His grip on her hand grew more rigid.

you accept my proposal if I make one?”

She responded right away, and as she turned to look at him, she iced that he was smiling brightly and looking out at the field. It was so azzling that it still had a little way to go before it reached his eyes.

“It will hurt you if I say no.” With a little smile, she continued, turning to face the field again.

“It will. No one hurts me as much as you do.” Nikolai said. Even more than his mother, her words had a way of getting right to the core of him. More painful than his father punishing him was seeing her suffer, especially when he witnessed her being impaled by a spear.

Ophelia was taken aback by his remarks. She’d never harmed him. Maybe she had? She recalled the dagger incident and all the taunts she had hurled at him. She pursed her lips and gave a long sigh.
