Tristan didn't shy away, didn't explain, and certainly didn't look displeased by Yvette's sudden public declaration of their relationship. He simply allowed the reporters to snap their photos.
In such a public setting, his silence was a blatant confirmation.
It finally clicked for Nova. While this event was packed with industry heavyweights, it was still far beneath someone of Tristan's status.
He was only here to support Yvette, to pave the way for her.
He wanted everyone to know that Yvette wasn't just talented—she had his backing and his empire supporting her.
A man as cold and ruthless as him wouldn't be this hands-on and meticulous unless he loved her down to his very bones.
Except... his legal wife was still sitting right there, supposedly carrying his child. They weren't even divorced yet.
Just as Nova was about to turn and leave, a reporter suddenly shoved a microphone toward Tristan. "Mr. Forrester, I recall hearing that you were already married. What exactly is your relationship with Ms. Sellers?"
The entire hall instantly fell dead silent.
Nova stopped dead in her tracks.
In that moment, she desperately wanted to hear his answer too.
"Tristan... I never imagined she would go through the trouble of stalking you here, not just to get your attention, but to target me. She's trying to sabotage my career." Yvette stepped closer to Tristan, biting her lip. Her face was grave, her tone laced with heavy disappointment.
Kieran didn't bother sugarcoating Yvette's insinuation.
"I knew it! Why else would someone with zero industry knowledge sit through this entire thing while you completely ignored her? Turns out she planted a reporter to ambush you. She thinks just because she's pregnant with your kid, she can ruin Yvette! You should have had security throw her out from the start!"
Yvette let out a soft sigh. "Kieran, don't say that. She probably just loves Tristan too much, which is why she's so hostile toward me... but she shouldn't have hired a reporter to cause a scene like this."
From the audience, Nova watched Tristan's eyes lock onto hers.
The sheer coldness and lack of humanity in his stare sent a violent shiver down her spine.
The venue was pin-drop silent, frozen by Tristan's terrifyingly dark expression.
The crowd was filled with brilliant scientific minds, but Tristan was the apex predator of the corporate world. Who would dare cross him?
Yet, the reporter seemed entirely unbothered, pushing forward as if they had nothing to lose. "Mr. Forrester, are you refusing to answer? Or is it a fact that you are married, and this Ms. Sellers is nothing but a shameless mistress?"
A scientific homewrecker. An academic fraud.
If that narrative took root, every single one of Yvette's past achievements and current glories would be dismissed as the perks of sleeping with a powerful man.
Nova couldn't see the reporter's face, but she felt a rush of panic for them.
The silence in the hall grew even more suffocating.
"You have exactly one chance to apologize." The man's deep, low voice was devoid of any emotion or warmth.
A biting, lethal chill settled in his eyes, but his tone never wavered. "Otherwise, you can take it up with my legal team."
