Walking Away While Pregnant: Dear Ex-Husband, I Don't Love You Anymore novel Chapter 155

Chapter 155: Chapter 155

Midway through Dylan’s sentence, the phone in his pocket began to vibrate. He pulled it out.

It was James.

"I need to take this," Dylan said, pressing the answer button. "What is it?"

"Sir, the eldest Madam is here," James said, his tone strained with difficulty. "She’s making a massive scene, crying and screaming that she has to go in and take the young master away."

Dylan’s face darkened instantly. "Keep her out. I’m coming down right now."

Hanging up, Dylan turned to Elise. "My sister-in-law is outside the ward trying to take Robin. I have to get down there immediately."

Elise knit her brows. "She has no intention of actually taking him. She’s throwing a tantrum on purpose. The bigger the scene she makes, the more it will agitate Robin. Dylan, can you seriously not see what she’s trying to do?"

Dylan looked at her. "Elise, I know exactly what I’m doing regarding my sister-in-law."

"You know exactly what you’re doing?" Elise let out a sharp, mocking laugh. "If you actually knew what you were doing, Robin wouldn’t be lying in a hospital bed today. You always have a library of excuses, Dylan.

Fleur is Robin’s biological mother, so you side with her; Fleur lost her husband while pregnant, so your heart bleeds for her. When her little stunts weren’t actively endangering Robin’s life and health, I had nothing to say if you wanted to turn a blind eye. But Robin is severely injured this time. Deep down, you already suspect her—yet even with those suspicions, the moment she cries and throws a tantrum, you soften up all over again."

Dylan stared at her, his Adam’s apple bobbing with difficulty.

"Elise," the man said, his dark eyes intense. "Robin getting hurt this time was my oversight. I promise you, something like this will never happen again."

"You promise me?" Elise sneered. "Dylan, we are currently separated and on the verge of divorce. You don’t need to promise me a damn thing. The only reason I care so much about what Fleur does is because I don’t want to see Robin get hurt again."

Dylan pressed his lips together. "Either way, stop interacting with Fleur. As for Robin, I will have dedicated guards watching over him from today onward."

"Why are you so desperate to keep me away from her?" Elise demanded, staring intently into his eyes, trying to catch a flicker of the truth.

But Dylan’s eyes remained as black as ink, deep and utterly bottomless. She still couldn’t read him. When Dylan decided to keep a secret, Elise had never been able to pry loose even a single shred of it.

He had probably never truly trusted her...

A wave of bitter cold washed over Elise’s heart. Five years of sharing a bed as husband and wife, and in the end, Dylan couldn’t even offer her basic trust. After all this, how did he still have the audacity to cling to this marriage?

"Fine. If you won’t tell me, I’ll dig it up myself," Elise said, her gaze turning ice-cold, her tone unyielding. "You lost the right to interfere in the feud between Fleur and me a long time ago."

"Elise!" Dylan frowned, an edge of panic bleeding into his tone. "What will it take for you to just listen to me?! My sister-in-law’s situation isn’t as simple as you think. Can you just trust me this once?!"

Hearing this, Elise’s brows drew together sharply. Looking at the man standing before her, a deeply familiar sense of disappointment welled up in her chest.

This was classic Dylan. He only ever considered what he wanted to do, stubbornly dug his heels into his own convictions, never consulted her, never shared a single detail—yet expected her unconditional trust.

What a joke.

"You’ve clearly forgotten that I trusted you far more than once." Elise let out a faint, hollow laugh, lowering her head to pull her trench coat tighter. Looking back up, a mocking smile touched her lips. "But tell me, Dylan, what did that trust ever buy me?"

Dylan’s eye twitched.

Elise looked down at her blankly, having absolutely no intention of engaging. The more enthusiastically Fleur performed right now, the harder the reality would slap her in the face once Robin woke up and identified her as his attacker.

Dylan looked down at Fleur, his face severe. "What are you doing? Get up..."

"Dylan, just leave Robin and me to our fate, alright?" Fleur turned her tear-streaked face to Dylan, sobbing miserably. "Just let us live and die on our own! You’re always looking out for us, and it makes Elise resentful. You’re her husband, and the two of you are about to welcome your own child. Just let Robin and me leave, I beg of you..."

Dylan stepped forward, bending down to pull Fleur up by the arms. "Stop letting your mind run wild. You are my late brother’s wife, and Robin is his boy. How could I ever abandon you?"

Saying this, Dylan turned a completely frigid gaze upon Elise, his tone heavy with reprimand: "Elise, look at what you’ve driven her to."

Elise met his eyes impassively. If this had happened before, she would have assumed Dylan was just being blind again. But during their brief talk on the rooftop, despite his tight-lipped evasion, his guarded phrasing had given her plenty of information.

At the very least, Dylan suspected Fleur. His current behavior was highly likely a performance to avoid alerting the target. It seemed the secrets Fleur was hiding ran far deeper than what Zoey’s friend had uncovered.

With that realization, Elise curled her lips into a cold, biting sneer. "Since you care so deeply for this wonderful sister-in-law of yours, why don’t you just marry her? That way, she and Robin can rely on you officially."

"Elise!" Dylan roared. "You are being completely unreasonable! Fleur and Robin are family! It is only right that I take care of them!"

"Whatever your family does is none of my business, because I am not a part of it," Elise spat, her voice dripping with disgust. "Being family with the likes of you turns my stomach. Dylan, you and your precious sister-in-law deserve to be locked together for the rest of your miserable lives."

Dropping her final words, Elise turned and walked straight toward the elevators.

Dylan stared after her, his jaw clamped tight into a rigid line.
