“Cora, are you actually trying to set me up? Or are you trying to brainwash me? No matter what, you’re just pushing me further away!”

Joseph got out of bed and stared at Cora, who was in a deep slumber, before stepping out onto the balcony to smoke.

After returning from the club, Cora was unusually eager and kept pressing herself on Joseph. He felt the same desire, and they went at it hard until they were both exhausted.

“Cora, you’ve ruined everything!” Joseph stared into the night, lost in thought.

Two days later, Cora walked into the study and said, “Pack up your things. I’ll take you somewhere to see a patient.”

“See a patient? Why didn’t you just have Walt make the arrangement?”

“He’ll be there too, along with a few other specialists. They all recommended you and said they highly value your opinion.”

“Who’s the patient?”

“Come with me. You’ll know once you get there.”

Cora brought Joseph to an upscale residential area. Outside the villa they were heading to were several luxury cars, and Joseph immediately recognized Walt’s and Bernard’s.

After entering the villa, Joseph also spotted Frank and Wendy. When he saw the patient, he suddenly realized it was Ernest Ashmore.

Cora hadn’t told Joseph earlier because she was worried he might refuse to come with her.

The Ashmores, huh?

An idea struck Joseph, and he suddenly wanted Frank gone. A few days ago, it had been impossible for him to get in contact with the Ashmores. Now that an elderly member of the Ashmore family was sick, he finally had an opening to work with.

Joseph walked over and began examining Ernest to get an initial understanding of his condition. Then he went through the medical test results and treatment records.

“Dr. Hart, what do you think?” Walt first presented his views and proposal before looking at Joseph.

Even though Walt had extensive clinical experience, he was no match for Joseph in complex cases, as Joseph had a more solid theoretical background.

“Joseph, how could you say something like that?”

After hearing Wendy’s exaggerated version of events, Cora also became upset. At first, she had brought Joseph here to help her earn some credit. She hadn’t expected him to be completely useless.

Joseph didn’t want to deal with Cora, so he didn’t say a word and continued smoking.

Just then, Bernard walked out of the room and started complaining to Cora about Joseph. “Why did you bring that piece of trash here? He was no use at all! He’s useless!”

“Ha! Are you doubting me? Well, I’ve got something to tell you. Your high blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol issues are getting worse. If you get too worked up, you might get a stroke!” A ruthless glint flashed in Joseph’s eyes. 1

“Say that again, and I’ll kill you!” Furious, Bernard was about to hit Joseph, but Cora pulled him back.

Cora then ordered Joseph to get into the car and studied him thoughtfully. “Did you do that on purpose?”

“Ernest’s in critical condition, and the surgery’s really risky. Let Walt take the fall. As for your dad. Forget it. Your entire family doesn’t believe in science,” Joseph replied coldly.
