Joseph really wanted to walk over and slap Cora across the face for cheating on him. He suppressed the impulse. If all he wanted was revenge against her, he would have exposed her long ago.

“The reason Walt is still at Jenton University Hospital is that your family pulled strings to protect him, right?” Joseph asked after washing his hands.

“Yes, that outcome serves everyone’s interests. Joe, if you would just listen to me and think about what’s best for this family, Walt would step down eventually,” admitted Cora. She was hoping to work with Joseph based on mutual interests.

“Me and the Lowell family? You guys don’t need an outsider like me. Tell Frank to transfer Ernest to Croma Hospital as soon as possible. Keeping him at Jenton University Hospital is pointless. They don’t have the resources to treat him,” Joseph stated.

Cora asked, “You can’t save him either?”

Joseph answered, “No.”

Cora said, “Maybe it isn’t that you can’t. Maybe it’s that you won’t.”

“I’ve already made my position clear. What you do next is up to you. By the way, is there any news on Marla?” Joseph asked.

Cora responded, “She fled to Tidecrest. After that, she disappeared.”

“What about Sharon?” Joseph questioned.

“She claims she has no idea why Marla ran and says she doesn’t know anything,” Cora answered.

“Just keep lying to me,” said Joseph. He immediately detected Cora’s lie.

At that moment, Ella came over to ask whether the meal should be served. Joseph replied that he had already eaten before heading to the study.

Cora followed Joseph inside and asked, “Joe, why didn’t you ask about our daughters? I’ve noticed that you’ve stopped paying attention to them lately. You don’t care about their daily lives anymore. You don’t even ask about their studies. What’s going on with you?”

Joseph cut her off. “My attitude is wrong? How do you want me to act then?”

Cora woke early to find the spot beside her empty; Joseph was already gone. After washing up, she searched the house for him, only to realize that both the study and the guest room were empty too.

It was only after asking Ella that Cora learned what had happened. Joseph had received a call from the ICU department, so he left for the hospital.

Returning to the bedroom, Cora frowned at the message lighting up her screen. After a moment of thought, she typed a reply.
