A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 181

Chapter 181

The next moment, Joseph was summoned to the conference room. He reviewed Calvin’s surgical footage with other specialists and professors at the hospital.

“Dr. Hart, do you see any problems with the operation?” Yvette asked.

“Not at all. If I were the lead surgeon, it’s exactly what I would’ve done. It was a textbook procedure.”

Despite saying so, Joseph had actually noticed something was off. He suspected foul play in Calvin’s case. He probably had been exposed to something from one of Nonagon Chemical’s illegal substances. Those side effects had led to tumor metastasis in Lionel as well.

As for Calvin, the side effects had worsened his condition, resulting in his death on the operating table.

Yvette then had everyone present sign a document, making them jointly responsible for the surgical incident.

“Dr. Quinn, this isn’t even a medical malpractice case, yet you’re making everyone uneasy. What on earth are you up to?

“The patient’s family isn’t even here yet, yet you’re rushing to classify it as a medical incident. What’s your logic behind that? In my opinion, you don’t have what it takes to be a leader. You can’t even compare to Walt!”

Joseph refused to sign the document. He rose to his feet and left. One by one, senior specialists and professors got up and walked out of the room too, leaving Yvette’s newly appointed specialists. They exchanged glances, not knowing what to say.

Yvette was furious at Joseph for humiliating her in public, so she instructed her secretary to take care of a few matters.

Later, she arrived at the ICU and barged in without knocking, slamming the door behind her. She pointed at Joseph, who was smoking, and snapped at him.

“Joseph, what was that all about? Don’t you know? You shouldn’t say or do anything that could cause a division.”

“No way. I’ve already warned Grace. If she helps Joseph again, she’ll be breaking our peace agreement. She can’t handle the consequences.”

Cora had her people split up to search the river and the laboratory in the Crest District, but they still couldn’t find Joseph. She was furious, but there was nothing she could do.

Joseph had followed a strict routine for over ten years. She realized that his breaking it had completely thrown her off balance.

“Joseph, you’re really something, aren’t you? All these years, I’ve been working hard for our family and giving you a comfortable life.

“Now that I really need you, you’ve just vanished! Do you really think not coming home will make me agree to a divorce? In your dreams!

“I call the shots for our marriage. If I refuse a divorce, don’t even think about it! Joseph, you’d better come to your senses soon. I want you back home tomorrow!”
