A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 195

Chapter 195

When Cora came home and saw Joseph playing with Kimberly, she let out a sigh of relief.

Since her parents had a falling out with Joseph and had a party to attend that day, they wouldn’t be coming over. That meant Cora didn’t have to worry about any drama between Joseph and Bernard.

Seeing everyone gathered around the dinner table gave Cora the illusion that they were a happy family of five again.

After dinner, the children went off to do their own things under a housekeeper’s supervision, while Cora went to the heated indoor pool to relax with Joseph.

“Honey, can you promise me something?”

“I already told you that I’m still not over your betrayal. We could get divorced at any time,” Joseph said calmly.

After a full day at the hospital, he needed to relax. After all, he was 40 now. He couldn’t recover as quickly as a 20 year-old.

“Will you give that a rest already? I want you to stop having any contact with Grace. She’s a widow, and you’ve slept with her. That shouldn’t have happened in the first place.

“Now she’s working against me at every turn, and yet you still got into her car? What exactly is going on between you two?”

“Does being with her damage her reputation, or ruin mine even more? Cora, you still don’t understand what you should be focusing on right now.

“What are you going to do about Nat and Selena? They already know part of the truth you’ve been hiding. You can’t cover it up forever.

“You might be able to keep things under control with your authority now, but they’re growing up fast. How are you going to explain things to them in the future?”

“They are your flesh and blood. I am absolutely certain of that.”

“Cora, you used to say there was something wrong with my head and wanted to send me to a psychiatric hospital. But looking at things now, I believe you’re the one who’s lost touch with reality!”

“I am not crazy!”

“Then when are you going to start thinking rationally again? How are you going to explain things to them?”

“What’s there to explain? I’m their mother. Who would know better than I do? We conceived them together. They’re your daughters, and you’re their father. That’s the truth. Why should I have to explain anything?

“I’m looking for her too. I’d like to know who this person she mentioned is! It’s just a shame she’s in Horba. I don’t have people or influence there, so it’s beyond my reach.”

“Letting her slip away right under my nose back then was a huge mistake.”

Joseph slapped the water’s surface in frustration, his regret evident.

“Oh? And were you planning to keep her here by using the same methods you supposedly used on Ella?”

“Did that bitch Yvonne come to you just to tell you that? Heh. She’s half-right and half-wrong. Messing with the facial nerves and muscles to make someone’s mouth and eyes droop can be done by anyone.

“But I don’t have the ability to give Ella a serious chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease like myasthenia gravis.”

“Then I’ll believe you.”

Cora knitted her eyebrows. As she stared at Joseph, she found herself becoming even more convinced that he was indeed the one responsible for Ella’s condition.
