A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 258

Chapter 258

“You have to be careful!” Grace reminded Joseph again before seeing him off the next day. Then, she got ready and left to handle her own business.

Meanwhile, Joseph returned to the hospital and worked as usual. He collected several medications in the morning, and with Paige’s help, he obtained a few more.

He repeated the process that afternoon until he had everything he needed. After that, he left work early. Upon arriving at the laboratory in Crest District, he began synthesizing what he had planned.

At around 8:00 pm, Joseph received a call from Cora, telling him to return home. He replied that he was busy and refused to go back. Less than 30 minutes later, a car horn sounded outside the laboratory. She had come over.

He didn’t bother opening the gate. His car was already taking up the space inside-even if he opened it, she wouldn’t be able to get her car in.

By the time he finished synthesizing everything he wanted, he stored it away and sent Grace a message, telling her to pick it up later. It was only then that he left the laboratory.

Cora got out of the car and walked toward Joseph. She questioned, “Didn’t you hear the horn? Why didn’t you open the gate? If you do this again, I’ll force myself in. Whatever gets damaged, I’ll pay to have it repaired.”

“Cora, I know you’re wealthy and powerful. You can do whatever you want, but the more you do that, the more I despise you. If you’re so capable, use those abilities to protect your family and children instead of wasting them on me,” replied Joseph.

If she hadn’t bragged about how great she was, he wouldn’t have despised her this much.

“What did I do wrong this time?” Cora asked, not expecting Joseph’s aggressive attitude. It felt different. He had argued with her before, but back then, his anger had felt powerless and helpless. Even when he resisted, it lacked conviction. Now, his resistance made her feel uneasy.

Joseph responded, “You didn’t do anything wrong. Everything you do has a purpose. Everything is about profit. Without your brilliant decisions, you never would have built the wealth and status you have today.

“This is on me. I shouldn’t have been blind. I should have seen through you sooner. I should have left you long ago. When Natalie was born a month early, I should have conducted a DNA test back then.”

Unable to control his emotions, he started talking about the past.

“Are you ever going to let that go? Cora frowned. Joseph kept holding onto the same stuff, and she couldn’t do anything about it.

Joseph looked around. On both sides of the nearby street were cars belonging to Cora’s bodyguards. Straightening his back, he asked, “Cora, if all of this disappeared, would you still be this confident?”

“It won’t disappear. It isn’t a question I need to think about or answer. Since you’ve pushed things this far, you’re coming home with me tonight. Otherwise, I’ll have them escort you,” said Cora coldly. Her imposing presence tried to force his submission.

Joseph didn’t back down. “What will happen after I go back? Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you? In fact, I could slowly ruin your health without anyone noticing. If I wanted you dead, I could decide when you died.

“Not only you, but I can also make that decision for your entire family. Are you sure you want to bring someone that dangerous into your home?”

Cora responded, “Before you ever got the chance, I would notice what you were trying to do, and I would stop it. I’ve given you every opportunity to change, but you refuse. If that’s the case, you’ll have to face the consequences.

“Of course, you’re still the man I love. I would never truly hurt you. The worst I would do is keep you at home. I would still talk to you and watch movies with you. We would have drinks together and share the same bed. The way I’ve needed you in the past is exactly how I’ll need you from now on.”

“Cora, don’t overestimate yourself. There are still people in Jenton who aren’t afraid of you. Also, I’m not as weak as you think. I’m not going home with you tonight. Let’s see how you’re planning to escort me home,” stated Joseph before getting into his car.

Joseph drove past Cora’s car and broke her side mirror. The speed and commotion startled her. As she watched his car leave, her expression turned grave. This time, she might truly be unable to keep him by her side anymore.
