Barry wasn’t in any serious condition, but because of his high-profile background, multiple rounds of specialist consultations were still arranged for him.

The real headache, though, was the Zahn family’s entourage. They demanded a flawless treatment plan that would completely cure Barry.

Joseph maintained his professional integrity as a doctor and refused to make exaggerated guarantees about the treatment. He simply admitted Barry for observation and care.

During Barry’s hospitalization, Joseph neither returned home nor contacted Cora. Whatever she was up to was none of his business.

The following afternoon, Barry woke up feeling totally fine. Without saying a word to any of the doctors, he yanked out his IV and just walked right out of the hospital.

Joseph spoke to Mason about it and asked him to have someone from the Zahn family come to sign the papers and handle the necessary procedures.

A while later, Paula arrived. She used her phone to start a video call with Belinda, then stepped outside the room.

“Joseph, what the hell are you doing? How could you let him leave the hospital? He’s out there eating and drinking like a king, without a single thing wrong with him. Is this what you promised you’d do for me?” Belinda complained immediately, glaring at the screen.

“You expect me to just kill him on the spot with that many people watching him? Are you asking me to chop his head off so that we can all go down together?

“What’s the hurry? Let the bullet fly a little longer. You’ll get the outcome you’re expecting,” Joseph snapped

back.

He was already thinking he could never work with Belinda again. She was far too impatient and impulsive to be trusted.

“So you’re saying you already made your move?”

“You did as I asked, so I certainly won’t pull my punches.”

Joseph didn’t hang up. Instead, he called Paula back in and handed her the phone.

He didn’t trust Paula either, so he didn’t say anything unnecessary. Since she wanted a consultation, he checked her pulse and told her that she was generally healthy, though she should pay attention to issues such as menstrual cramps.

“Dr. Hart, I-I actually wanted to ask you how I can get pregnant. I want to have a baby with my husband, but I haven’t been able to conceive,”

“Getting pregnant takes two, and there are many other factors that can affect it-”

“But is there anything wrong with me?”

“I can’t say for sure without running more detailed tests, but you do seem to be prone to menstrual cramps, which lowers your chances of conceiving. It’s totally treatable, though.

“If that still doesn’t work, then you’ll need further examinations. You and your husband have both the time and the financial means, so having children is only a matter of time.”

After thinking it over, Joseph wrote her a prescription to help regulate her condition.

After seeing Paula out, Joseph got a call from Grace. She asked about the Lowell family, but Joseph revealed nothing to her.

Even though he didn’t trust Belinda, he didn’t intend to betray her. Besides, if Grace found out about this, it could put her in a very bad position.

Since Grace was with the Yeager family at the moment, he asked to talk to Mavis. Before long, the call came through, and he heard Mavis’ voice.

Joseph asked how she was doing health-wise, then brought up the Zahn family of Jenton.

“Oh, why are you asking about the Zahn family?”

“Someone from the Zahn family came to the hospital for treatment. He was quite eccentric, and I was warned not to get involved, which naturally made me curious. Who are they, exactly?”

“The social hierarchy you know consists of the elite, the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class. But what you don’t know is that above the elite exists an even more powerful, mythical echelon.

“If you ask me, the Yeager family sits somewhere between the elite and that mythical tier. The Zahn family of Jenton, on the other hand, are truly part of that mythical echelon, even if they’ve been in decline for the past 20 to 30 years. Don’t mess with them if you can help it.”
