A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 463

Chapter 463

Joseph had no idea about Cora’s ambitions, or rather, how determined she was.

Now that Jenton was in turmoil, Cora had a real chance to rise to the top if she were ambitious enough. If she could absorb the Zahn family’s businesses and build on the foundation of the Lowell, Banks, and York families, she could truly become the dominant force in Jenton.

By the time Joseph woke up, it was already afternoon. He grabbed a bite with Katie before heading back to the company to rest.

Come evening, he returned to the clinic, collected two samples, and went inside to run the comparison tests.

Later that night, Jenna had someone deliver a sample as well. It was a sample of Skylar’s blood.

Cora called, but Joseph ignored it. A text followed, saying she was right outside the clinic. Joseph refused to let her in and kept his focus entirely on the tests.

In the early hours of the morning, the test results, which came out quickly, left Joseph absolutely stunned.

The two samples his own people had acquired both came back negative, showing no connection at all.

But the blood Jenna sent tested positive, meaning Natalie, Selena, and Kimberly were indeed Skylar’s kids. Why were the results conflicting?

Joseph felt no sense of joy, only crushing heartbreak. Now that he had found the children’s biological father, he would truly have nothing to do with them anymore.

They had finally become somebody else’s children.

He had spent over a decade pouring his heart and soul into them, all for nothing.

Wondering if there had been an error, Joseph ran cross-comparison tests since there were still samples left. Then came another long wait.

For three whole days, Joseph didn’t set foot outside the clinic.

After running the tests over and over again, he was finally sure that all three girls were Skylar’s.

When he was finally alone, he locked himself in the clinic’s bathroom. Standing under the shower, he finally broke down, crying for a very long time.

After that, without telling a soul, he left Jenton and went back to that monastery. He meditated and read scriptures, trying to find some peace within himself.

A few days later, Yelena showed up. Seeing Joseph still sporting a shaved head and wearing loose, casual clothes, she smiled a little. No one else knew where he could be, but she did.

As Yelena was leaving, she said, “Joseph, I probably shouldn’t say this, but I have to. Running away isn’t going to solve anything.”

“I’m not running away. I just need some time to clear my mind and decide what to do next. It’s not the end of the world, and I still have the rest of my life to live.”

Joseph waved her off, signaling for her to leave.

Yelena went back to Marie’s place and stayed the night.

After sending the housekeeper away, Yelena told Marie that she had found Joseph and wanted to hear Marie’s take on the situation.

“The Zahn family is pure evil!” Marie exclaimed after hearing everything, her brows tightly furrowed.

“I’m planning to publicly stand with Joseph and help him get his justice.”

Marie let out a sigh. “You young people and your affairs… If you want to do it, then go ahead.”

She left it at that. After spending some time with Joseph, she had come to understand what kind of person he was and felt even more sorry for everything he’d gone through.
