Chapter 596
After Joseph parted ways with Cora, something occurred to him, and he gave Natalie a call.
Natalie answered, sounding super annoyed. “If you’ve got something to say, spit it out”
“Hold on. Aren’t you supposed to be at school? What are you doing?” Joseph asked.
“It’s all thanks to you! Because you wouldn’t let me gosee my dad, my mom found out, and now she’s got me doing grunt work at the company, all under the excuse of getting me to ‘learn the ropes.’
“This is all your fault. You’d better make it up to me by letting me see my dad.”
He was surprised that Cora could still keep Natalie’s temper in check. Joseph said, “You really ought to go see him. Someone poisoned him. He’s in critical condition right now.”
Joseph heard something heavy hit the floor on Natalie’s end. It sounded like a folder or something. That was followed by Natalie hissing in pain as she took a sharp breath. The thing must have dropped right on her foot or toes.
“Henry, what did you say happened to my dad? He’s in critical condition? Don’t mess with me. I heard he was recovering well not that long ago.”
“Looks like you really don’t know anything. And you clearly didn’t listen to a word I said. I said he got poisoned. Do you understand what getting poisoned means?
“Ever heard of poison? If it acts up, even a perfectly healthy person could drop dead in an instant, let alone someone in your dad’s condition.”
“Who did it?”
“That’s classified info, way above my pay grade. So I can’t tell you, But honestly, Ms. Zahn, you’re way too young to be acting like some penny-pincher. That’s hardly the life that suits you!
“You’re the future heir to the Lowell family, as well as Skylar Zahn’s daughter. You actually have a shot at becoming the head of the Zahn family, so you need to think bigger. Do you get what I’m saying, my dear Ms. Zahn?”
“So what am I supposed to do right now?”
“There’s nothing you can do? Oh, wait-Fiona’s going to take me out to a Crestovian restaurant tonight. I’m talking about premium beef, foie gras, and caviar. Once I’ve had my fill, maybe I’ll think of a way to help you out.”
Joseph hung up with a smug smile on his face. “Natalie, don’t settle down now Haven’t you always disliked me and thought 1 wasn’t good enough to be your dad?
“Well, now your real dad is in the picture, you should go see him. If you don’t, your mom is never going to let you acknowledge him as your real father.”
The hospital brought in specialist after specialist to consult on Skylar’s case, but none of them had a proper solution. All they could do was treat the symptoms as they appeared by giving him the appropriate medication.
Then, Joseph “just happened” to stumble across a medical paper, which he passed on to Gemma. Figuring she had nothing to lose, she gave it a shot. And by sheer coincidence, it actually worked as an antidote and managed to pull Skylar through.
As soon as Yara heard, she immediately called Joseph in to interpret the latest data. Only after Joseph told her that Skylar had successfully been detoxified, was out of immediate danger, and should wake up tomorrow did she finally breathe easy.
Joseph said, “I heard a bit from Gemma. I was actually there the day Kaya went to pick up the meds. If I had access to the pharmacy, I could’ve kept an eye on her and stopped her from tampering with anything.”
“I’ve checked the security footage too. You’re in the clear. You’re not a mind reader. There’s no way you could’ve known everything. Nobody blames you. Otherwise, you’d be under investigation right now too.”

Thanks for trusting me!” Joseph said.
He knew that as long as Yara youched for him and acknowledged their relationship, no one would suspect him. After all, in everyone’s eyes, Joseph was practically Skylar’s brother-in-law right now.
Yara had Joseph give her a massage to help her relax, then asked him to take her out for a meal.
However, since he already had plans with Fiona that night and didn’t want to deal with the logistical headache of juggling both, he talked Yara into getting a good night’s rest that day, promising to take her out the next day instead..
Yara didn’t suspect a thing. After Joseph massaged the acupressure points on her head for a bit, she grew sleepy and naturally drifted off to sleep.
Who knew a rich heiress could be this soft and vulnerable at times? Of course, it just took the right situation to bring it out. She could be surprisingly sweet, just not for very long.
Joseph could already imagine what would happen once he told her the truth. She’d be so furious that she’d go absolutely ballistic. The more fondly she treated him now, the more she’d hate him when the truth came out.
As Joseph was slipping out, he saw Beth escorting another woman inside. She was wearing a face mask and sunglasses, with wavy, light-brown hair.
Her figure and fashion sense were pretty average. He couldn’t tell who she was, but the bracelet on her wrist looked strangely
familiar.
He stopped them. “Ms. Zahn is asleep. Don’t disturb her. Now’s not a good time for visitors. Wait until she wakes up, or come back another time.”
Beth nodded and told the woman, “Why don’t you head back and wait for word? When the timing is right, I’ll let you know to
come over.”
“Alright then. But please tell her she has to make time to see me This is urgent! She’s the only one who can save me. Please, you have to let her know what I’m dealing with.”
The woman was clearly reluctant to leave, but with Yara asleep, barging in and waking her up wouldn’t just fail to solve her problem; it would probably cost her dearly.
Joseph couldn’t help but wonder, “This voice sounds so familiar. Who is she?”
