A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 65

Chapter 65

By the time Joseph woke up, it was already the hext day. He went to clock in at the hospital, but instead of going about his duties, he went straight to the HR department to process his resignation.

However, he was told that his resignation could not be processed for the time being. The hospital’s senior leadership was still in a meeting discussing whether he should stay or leave.

What was the point of the meeting? Were they planning on slapping him with a disciplinary notice to humiliate him one last time? Joseph really hoped Walt wouldn’t push things too fax

Since he’d effectively been fired, he no longer bothered seeing any patients.

Still, Joseph accepted an invitation from the Traditional Medicine Center to examine Jerome again. He had actually turned them down several times before, because he trusted the place’s own doctors to handle the case.

Besides, he’d just taken over the ICU duties at the hospital and hadn’t been able to spare the time. Now that he was packing up and leaving, time was the one thing he had plenty of.

After the examination, Joseph found that Jerome’s recovery was progressing exceptionally well. Naturally, the biggest credit for that belonged to the surgery he had performed.

At noon, Jerome’s wife, Sally Hawke, invited Joseph to lunch. He could tell from her gaze and her tone that there was something more behind the invitation, but he accepted anyway.

Although she had rarely lived in Jenton over the years, Sally still knew that Armour Seafood Restaurant was a good place to entertain Joseph.

After they finished an excellent meal, Sally took out a check from her purse and slid it across the table toward him, though she kept her fingers resting on it.

“You’ll have to answer a few questions first,” she said.

“Go ahead.” Joseph narrowed his eyes slightly. Under normal circumstances, he would have refused the money and walked away immediately. But now that he’d lost his job, he needed money badly, so he didn’t want to turn it down.

Then, she removed her hand from the check. When Joseph glanced at the amount, he was a little surprised to see one hundred thousand dollars.

But he didn’t mind accepting it. After all, Jeronte was someone worth in the tens of millions. This amount was nothing to him.

Then, Sally extended another offer. “Dr. Hart, that surgery you did for Jerome was extremely difficult. It’s obvious that you are a skilled doctor. I have some connections overseas. I could introduce you to some top-tier medical research institutes.

“You’d get at least ten times your current salary and benefits. How about coming abroad with me?”

Joseph replied, “I have no plans to relocate or leave the country for now. Ms. Hawke, thank you for lunch, but I have some other things I need to attend to.”

After leaving the restaurant, Joseph returned home, turned off his phone, and slept for a while. When he woke up, he went swimming, pushing himself to his limits.

When he climbed out of the pool, he saw Cora already standing nearby with a towel in her hands, waiting for him.
