"It's exactly what she said. I can't move. It was bothering me, so I asked her to scratch it."
Alaric didn't buy a single word of it.
He was convinced Ethan was deliberately harassing the girl.
He knew he didn't even like Ivy, yet he couldn't figure out why his chest was burning with such intense, sour jealousy.
He shot Ivy a freezing glare. "Step outside."
Ivy didn't dare hesitate and practically fled the room.
Once she was gone, Alaric turned his imposing, icy wrath onto Ethan.
"Listen to me, Ethan. She is a married woman. Put away whatever thoughts you have about her. If you pull any more immoral stunts, I won't spare you."
The moment the words left his mouth, Alaric mentally checked himself. What the hell was wrong with him?
Wasn't he the one who wanted Ivy to care for Ethan in the first place?
Didn't he want Ivy to fall for Ethan, cross a line, and practically hand him the divorce he wanted?
So why was he fiercely warning his nephew to back off?
Alaric felt like he was losing his mind.
"I get it."
Seeing the murderous look on his uncle's face, Ethan had no choice but to meekly agree.
Alaric didn't stay long. He turned on his heel, walked out, and immediately dialed Director Hamilton.
He ordered the director to assign a male nurse to the room.
The male nurse would handle all intimate care. Ivy was strictly relegated to changing bandages, administering meds, and monitoring vitals.
Before he even reached the elevators, his phone buzzed again.
Alaric pulled it out and glanced at the screen.
It was Mrs. Gable.
He stepped over to the window to answer.
The sound of a child's wails immediately poured through the speaker. Mrs. Gable quickly explained.
"Mr. Foster, Stella refuses to come home with me. She's throwing a fit, saying she won't leave unless her mother comes to pick her up."
Alaric couldn't fathom why his daughter was so obsessed with Ivy.
"I said let's go, so we go."
Alaric wasn't in the mood to argue. He turned and walked away.
Ivy scrambled to take off her lab coat. The moment her coworker arrived, she rushed through the handoff and hurried into the elevator behind him.
Seeing that Mr. Foster's impossibly handsome face was still completely frozen—as if she owed him millions of dollars—Ivy strategically pressed herself into the furthest corner, trying to turn invisible.
"Didn't you go back to your hometown?" Alaric suddenly asked.
Ivy froze for a second. When she looked up, her answer was entirely uncooperative.
"Can't I come back after I leave?"
Her attitude was downright defiant.
Alaric hadn't expected her to talk back to him, let alone with such hostility.
He couldn't help but stare at her.
Seeing the girl's small face pulled into a cold, stubborn frown—acting even more temperamental than he was—he pressed his lips into a thin line. Surprisingly, he found the patience to press the issue.
"You left last night and came back this morning. What was the point of even going?"
