Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 103

Ethan finally woke up.

He blinked, taking in the sight of Ivy changing his bandages.

With a tube still in his mouth, his eyes looked dull and his face was ashen.

Despite not having an ounce of strength in his body, a faint, incredibly handsome smile managed to tug at the corners of his lips the moment he saw her.

Ivy noticed he was conscious and quickly spoke up.

"Don't move. Just lie still. I'll go get the doctor."

She turned on her heel, informed the attending physician, and then pulled out her phone, keeping her head down as she typed a message to Alaric.

Ivy: [Mr. Foster, your nephew is awake.]

After sending it, Ivy stared at their chat history.

It was always her initiating the messages.

Mr. Foster had never replied. Not even once.

She felt pathetic, like a desperate lapdog.

In a moment of pure impulse, Ivy wanted nothing more than to delete his number entirely.

But logic ruthlessly intervened. She couldn't afford to be emotional.

She still had to earn money for her sister's treatment.

And Mr. Foster was the one authorizing the daily nursing fee for caring for Ethan.

For the sake of the money, Ivy pulled her finger away from the screen, pocketed her phone, and went back to work.

Summer Vance avoided her whenever she saw her in the halls.

Summer couldn't fathom what was wrong with her uncle. He was constantly shielding Ivy.

She had presented solid proof that Ivy's supposed husband was abusing his hospital authority, yet Alaric hadn't done a thing.

Instead, he had warned Summer to mind her own business or face being kicked out of the hospital.

The more Summer thought about it, the angrier she got.

There was no way she was letting Ivy stay at Metropolitan General.

She would find a way to get rid of her.

By the afternoon.

Ivy returned to change Ethan's dressings for the second time.

Ethan was fully conscious now, though completely immobilized.

Besides, she was going to have to give him sponge baths eventually anyway.

There was no point overthinking it. She just needed to do her job.

Ivy reached her hand under the blanket to scratch Ethan's leg.

As luck would have it, Alaric walked into the room at that exact moment.

His eyes locked onto Ivy's hand moving beneath the sheets near Ethan's thigh.

His face instantly darkened as a furious, irrational shout ripped from his chest. "What the hell are you doing?!"

Ivy jumped, violently pulling her hand back. When she spun around and saw Mr. Foster, panic set in. She backed away, her explanation stumbling out in a guilty, flustered rush.

"I... I wasn't... Ethan said his leg was itchy and asked me to scratch it. So I did."

It wasn't her fault Ethan was paralyzed and couldn't move.

Since she was hired as his private nurse, she obviously had to attend to all his needs.

Alaric's expression remained terrifyingly dark, the air around him dropping to freezing temperatures as he approached.

His predatory gaze shifted from Ivy, locking onto Ethan with lethal intensity.

Seeing his uncle looking ready to commit murder, Ethan weakly tried to defend the situation.
