Several nurses hovered anxiously, completely at a loss on how to handle the enraged patient.
Seeing Ivy approach, her colleagues instantly parted, shooting her desperate, pleading looks.
"Ivy, thank god you're here. Please talk to him. If he keeps fighting his treatment, his wounds are going to get badly infected."
Ivy stepped up to the bedside. Ethan stopped thrashing the moment he saw her, though his expression remained thunderous.
He glared at her, completely unyielding.
"What are you doing here? I don't need your help. Get out."
She had ignored him all weekend.
What was the point of showing up now?
Especially since she was married.
The thought of her with another man made his chest ache with a fierce, bitter jealousy.
Ivy motioned for the other nurses to leave. As she expertly reinserted the IV needle into Ethan's vein, she spoke softly.
"My sister is incredibly sick. I have to make enough money for her treatments, so I was working extra shifts over the weekend."
"If you really don't want me as your nurse, I'll let your uncle know."
Ethan's anger instantly evaporated. He turned his head to look at her, his tough exterior crumbling.
"What's wrong with her?"
"Leukemia."
Ethan gasped, his eyes widening in alarm.
"Is it that bad? How much do you need? I'll pay for it."
Ivy was stunned by the wealthy young man's immediate, unquestioning generosity.
Her mind flashed back to the $100,000 Alaric had coldly transferred to her the night before.
The memory brought a lump to her throat.
She managed a weak smile. "That's very kind, but it's okay. Your uncle pays me a huge salary just to look after you. It's more than enough."
Hearing that, Ethan immediately sat up straight, suddenly the model patient.
"If it's ever not enough, just tell me. Ivy, we're friends. You don't ever have to be polite with me. If you're struggling, you have to let me know, okay?"
Even if she was married.
All she could do was take his money and use it to save her sister.
Around noon, Ivy received a text from Elena.
She wanted to grab lunch.
Ivy didn't feel she could say no.
Leaving the hospital, she met Elena at a nearby restaurant, noting the doctor's impeccable, expensive outfit.
Elena waved her over with a perfectly polite smile.
"Ivy, over here."
Ivy nodded and slipped into the booth across from her.
Elena pushed a menu across the table. "Order whatever you like. It's on me."
As Ivy scanned the options, Elena struck up a conversation.
"I heard Alaric only kept you at The Starlight Estate because you saved Stella."
"You've been there for a few months now. Tell me, have you noticed any other women around him?"
