Seeing her dad walk in, Stella immediately threw him under the bus.
"Daddy, you're right on time! Come show Mommy how to play the piano! She totally looks down on you and says you can't play!"
Horrified, Ivy clamped her hand over the little girl's mouth.
She watched the man approach, his icy aura radiating dominance.
She forced an awkward laugh to defend herself. "Mr... Mr. Foster, please don't misunderstand, I... I just..."
"Move."
Alaric commanded.
Startled, Ivy immediately scrambled out of the way.
Alaric sat down at the piano, running his fingers over the keys to test the tone.
Once he found his rhythm, he held absolutely nothing back, completely demonstrating to Ivy what a true artist looked like.
In that moment, Ivy was absolutely stunned.
A breathtaking, enchanting melody drifted through the entire Music Conservatory Room, echoing off the walls and flowing endlessly outward.
Ivy stood frozen in place, feeling as though she were drowning in an ocean of music, so thoroughly intoxicated she didn't want to wake up for even a second.
Especially with the man before her, dressed in a tailored suit, sitting at the piano with a perfectly straight spine. His long, elegant fingers danced nimbly across the keys, his foot working the pedals in flawless synchronization.
The entire scene was as flawless as a painting—utterly magnificent and entirely awe-inspiring.
The song ended.
Alaric stood up and faced Ivy, his handsome features as freezing and unreadable as ever.
"There are many people and things in this world you know nothing about. Judging someone so easily just because of your own ignorance is exceptionally rude."
Having delivered his lecture, he pulled the child along.
"Stella, let's go down for dinner."
Leaving Ivy completely alone in the room, absolutely drowning in humiliation.
So Mr. Foster had literally just slapped her in the face with his talent, proving that not only could he play the piano, but he played it phenomenally well.
And she had judged a book by its cover, which was genuinely out of line.
Ivy lifted her head and let out a dry chuckle.
Fine, she was uncultured and didn't realize someone so freezing and aloof could be a musician.
Look at how he had just showed off.
Ivy didn't even glance at the man across from her, speaking her absolute truth.
This older man was incredibly mean to begin with.
No matter what they were doing, the second he got annoyed, his face would darken and he'd start barking orders.
Figuring he'd just overhear her talking behind his back anyway, she might as well say it straight to his face.
Hearing this, Alaric's expression grew even darker.
He pressed his lips into a tight line, his dark eyes locked dead onto Ivy.
He desperately wanted to demand exactly when he had ever been mean to her.
Then he remembered he had quite literally just snapped at her in the music room.
Alaric instantly swallowed his words, pretending he hadn't heard a thing.
But he did realize one undeniable fact.
Ivy was getting far bolder, actually daring to criticize him right to his face.
Stella looked at her dad, frowning as she lectured him.
"Daddy, you are not allowed to be mean to Mommy. You have to be gentle and patient when you teach her, understand?"
