Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 143

Ivy's eyes immediately lit up with hope.

"Wait, does that mean I can still work there, just not right now?"

He looked at her.

Seeing how bruised her cheek still was, he swallowed the harsh lecture he had been prepared to deliver.

"If you care about this job so much, why didn't you take it seriously? Your negligence nearly killed Ethan."

Her defensive instincts flared instantly.

"If I told you I didn't mix up his medication, would you believe me? The doctors didn't prescribe the wrong dosage, either. I'm completely convinced I was framed. I was walking down the hall with the tray when a kid suddenly bumped into me, and the IV bags fell on the floor."

"A coworker walking by helped me pick them up. I didn't think anything of it at the time and just hooked him up to the drip."

"I left to get his lunch, and when I came back, they were doing CPR. I was doing my job perfectly, but how am I supposed to stop someone who's actively trying to sabotage me?"

She knew she hadn't made a mistake.

It had to be Summer Vance pulling strings behind her back.

But without hard proof, throwing her name around was just baseless slander.

Alaric pulled out his phone. "What was the name of this coworker?"

She blinked at him in surprise.

Was he actually going to investigate this for her?

A thought suddenly struck her—was he the reason Dr. Maxwell had apologized?

It had to be.

There was no other way a man with that much power at the hospital would voluntarily grovel and pay a massive settlement.

She honestly gave him the coworker's name.

Having him look into it couldn't hurt.

Besides, she had only voiced a suspicion.

If he found the truth, great. If not, she doubted he would punish her for it.

If he was going to fire her, he would have done it the second he walked through the door.
