Buying My Forever Wife novel Chapter 36

It was impossible to tell whether he was actually worried about Ivy or not.

The lead surgeon approached him, pulling down his mask with profound respect.

"Mr. Foster, the patient you brought in has sustained fractures to her lumbar vertebrae, her arm, and her lower leg. She also suffered trauma to the back of her head, accompanied by a likely concussion. We have transferred her to the ICU, and my team will do absolutely everything in our power to treat her."

Hearing the terrifying extent of the injuries, Alaric shot up from his seat.

"How is that even possible? She only tumbled down a few wooden steps!"

The doctor carefully explained.

"It appears she suffers from severe, chronic malnutrition. Her body is critically deficient in calcium and other essential nutrients, leading to advanced osteoporosis. With bones that fragile, even a minor stumble can easily trigger multiple devastating fractures."

Alaric was stunned into silence.

No wonder she looked so frighteningly frail and small.

The crushing realization that his deliberate inaction was the direct cause of her horrifying condition slammed into him.

Alaric delivered a chilling ultimatum.

"I don't care what methods you have to use, but you will ensure she makes a one hundred percent recovery. Whatever her body lacks, you will pump into her. If you fail to cure her, consider all your medical licenses revoked."

Throwing down his threat, he stormed off toward the ICU.

Standing by Ivy's hospital bed, he stared down at her unconscious form, heavily tethered to a terrifying array of tubes and monitors.

In that suffocating moment, Alaric finally understood what a colossal bastard he had been.

Regardless of his prejudice, he should never have just stood there and watched her fall. So what if she was a scheming, vain gold-digger?

The unalterable fact remained: she had saved his daughter's life.

If it wasn't for Ivy's brave intervention that day, his little girl would have already been taken from this world.

Alaric was consumed by guilt.

A deep, bitter regret gnawed at him for failing to extend a single hand to stop the tragic outcome.

Because of that guilt, he remained faithfully anchored to the chair beside Ivy's bed for the entire night.

When dawn broke and Ivy still showed no signs of waking, he had no choice but to leave.

Otherwise, Stella would inevitably wake up and throw a tearful tantrum in his absence.

He also had a corporation to run.

Before departing, Alaric strictly ordered his assistant to arrange for a top-tier private nurse to watch over her 24/7.

She had no choice but to ask for help. "Could you please unlock it and send a text to my sister? Just tell her an emergency came up and I won't be able to hike with her. Tell her to enjoy the day and head back to campus safely."

Mrs. Gable carefully typed out the exact message.

After hitting send, she tucked the phone away, her curiosity finally winning over.

"Mrs. Foster, how on earth did you fall so badly? To be hurt this severely..."

Last night, she had only seen Mr. Foster urgently carrying Ivy out; she had zero context as to what had transpired between them.

Ivy closed her eyes, a throbbing headache compounding her misery as she forced herself to remember.

It was all her own fault. Why hadn't she just turned on the lights?

That stupid mistake allowed Mr. Foster to terrify her into tumbling down the stairs.

Opening her eyes, Ivy asked, "Were you the one who brought me to the hospital?"

She remembered sobbing in blinding pain at the bottom of the stairs, begging Mr. Foster for help, only to be met with his icy indifference.

The agony had been so violent, the rest of the night was a total blank.

Mrs. Gable shook her head immediately. "No, no! It was Mr. Foster who rushed you here. He even stayed by your bedside all night long."
