He Gave Me Hearing, Then Taught Me What Silence Really Means novel Chapter 180

That comment hit Brooks right where it hurt. He took a sharp breath. "Nadine, do you always have to be such a vicious bitch?"

Nadine rolled her eyes. She despised weak, useless men, though she still harbored some mild affection for Brooks.

Her thoughts drifted back to Nelson and Alistair.

Nadine firmly believed she was beautiful, and she felt entitled to the attention of top-tier men. If a wealthy, handsome man so much as smiled at her, she would immediately delude herself into thinking he was obsessed with her. Because of this twisted vanity, she was convinced Juniper was stealing all the attention that rightfully belonged to her.

Meanwhile, on the other end of the city, Lydia Thorne stared at the incoming text message, her manicured nails digging painfully into her palms.

After the disaster of that night, she wasn't sure how much Nelson actually remembered. She had deliberately avoided him for days.

Now, seeing that Juniper was using her family crisis to run to Eleanor—knowing full well Eleanor would just dump the problem on Nelson—Lydia realized the two were about to get tangled up all over again.

Juniper was a cockroach that just wouldn't die!

She couldn't sit around and wait anymore. She had to make a move.

Biting her lip, she rapidly typed out a message to her mysterious contact.

"You promised you'd take care of Juniper. I'm out of patience."

The reply was instantaneous. They agreed.

Lydia let out a long breath. Remembering the explosive trap she had already set on another front, a sinister smile curled her lips.

With the massive resources at her disposal, there was no way she couldn't crush a deaf, backwater peasant.

She went to pick up Josie from preschool. When they returned home, Yvonne was in the living room.

Yvonne had been battling severe migraines lately, likely stressed over the medical specialist issue and deeply irritated by Juniper's continued existence.

"Mom, Nelson's birthday is coming up in a couple of days. Josie said she wanted to paint him a picture."

Yvonne's eyes immediately softened with affection. She reached out and lifted Josie onto the sofa. "Is that so? Did you finish it, sweetie?"

Josie nodded earnestly, pulling a drawing out of her tiny backpack. It was a picture of the whole family.

Noticing that her eldest son, Kieran, wasn't in the drawing, Yvonne sighed softly. Josie probably still didn't understand...

Never mind. She gently stroked Josie's hair. "It's beautiful. Your father is going to love it."

"Really?"

Josie's eyes lit up with pure joy. "Do you like it, Grandma?"
