He had arrived on Yara's very first night shift of the week.
Initially, Yara hadn't planned on paying him much extra attention, but he seemed so pitifully isolated. He had no family, was a struggling college dropout, and worked in some random restaurant. He had enough money to cover his medical bills, but not a single person had come to visit him since he was admitted.
He was incredibly quiet, occasionally exchanging a few words with Yara. Over time, she naturally fell into the habit of going out of her way for him.
Even with a white bandage wrapped over his eyes, his facial features were strikingly handsome. If he were still on a university campus, he would easily be the heartthrob of the school.
Just a tragically broke one.
Yara found her own overactive imagination amusing as she stepped in to check his vitals. "Harrison, how are you feeling?"
Harrison Holt leaned back against the pillows, turning his head in the direction of her voice. "Same as always."
His voice was mesmerizing—deep and resonant, like pearls dropping onto fine china.
Yara thoroughly checked his IV and bandages. "The doctor says the bandages can come off in a few days. You might experience some temporary blindness, but you can start adjusting to the dark now."
"How long is temporary?"
"I can't say for sure, but you've been adapting pretty quickly."
He fell silent, leaning further back into the bed.
Yara was about to leave when she heard him ask, "Could you get me a glass of water?"
She quickly poured a cup. Worried he wouldn't be able to find it, she gently guided his hand and placed the paper cup directly into his palm.
He gripped the cup tightly, murmured his thanks, and took a few sips.
Yara couldn't shake the feeling that he possessed a certain scholarly grace—reserved, proud, and quietly aloof, yet remarkably gentle when he spoke. She couldn't resist asking, "Were you a literature major? You really give off that intellectual vibe."
To have that kind of aura at twenty-one, he had to be an avid reader.
Harrison's eyes were hidden behind the thick gauze. He couldn't see Yara's expression, and she had no way of reading the emotions in his eyes.
"No. I studied astronomy."
