Yorath looked at his mother downstairs. After ten seconds, he turned and walked into the study.
Tobin made a symbolic attempt to block him but didn't dare use real force.
The door wasn't shut tightly, allowing their conversation to drift out.
Yorath said, "Ottilie is pregnant. The child needs legitimacy."
Lorenzo Fordham replied, "Didn't we already agree? Once you're married, the child will be brought back and legally registered under your future wife's name."
"He has his own mother. He doesn't need anyone else taking that role."
Yorath's tone was unyielding.
Lorenzo went silent, but the sheer oppressive tension spilling through the crack in the door made Ottilie take a step back.
After several seconds of dead silence, Lorenzo's voice echoed again.
"Your future wife hasn't even walked down the aisle yet, and you're already announcing an illegitimate child to split your assets. What prominent family would agree to an alliance with you now?"
Yorath replied, "I can call off the wedding. But my son is the eldest grandson of the Fordham family, and he will walk through the front doors with his head held high."
Crash.
Porcelain shattered against the floor.
Tobin quickly pulled the study door shut right on cue.
The soundproofing was impeccable; standing outside, Ottilie couldn't hear another sound.
She didn't know if someone had intentionally arranged for her to overhear that conversation.
All she knew was that she was the parasite of the entire Fordham family.
Right now, every single one of them hated her to the bone.
Every glare directed at her was brimming with hostility and venom.
This ancient, imposing estate felt like a massive tomb.
Trapping them all inside.
Filled with nothing but vengeful ghosts and resentful spirits.
All desperate to tear her to pieces.
Ottilie wasn't afraid, though.
If these people dared to lay a hand on her...
She would just scream that she was carrying the precious Fordham heir.
