Naturally, Ottilie couldn't admit she was preparing for a wilderness survival show.
Once she vanished, Yorath would figure it out anyway.
"It's impossible for me to get pregnant from one time, especially when we used protection."
Even if she were, she'd get rid of it immediately.
Yorath stated confidently, "My fertility is excellent."
Ottilie had to pivot. "I just realized I was too skinny and needed to gain some weight, so I've been eating more."
"That's fine. Keep the baby supplies. You'll need them eventually."
Yorath ended the call.
Ottilie brushed it off.
She was leaving soon anyway, and the show required total isolation, meaning she wouldn't be reachable for a month.
By the time the show aired, she'd be laying all her cards on the table with him.
Their contract was already voided, so there was no need to meet face-to-face—she could just announce it directly to the media.
If he wanted to blacklist her, let him. She had nothing left to lose.
A text from Lachlan came through.
{Dinner tonight with the show's director and producers to get acquainted. We leave the day after tomorrow. Can you make it?}
{Yes. Yorath isn't home.}
That evening, as Ottilie prepared to leave, Yvonne offered to drive her.
Ottilie said, "I'm just going out for a walk. I'll be back shortly."
Yvonne insisted, "I should drive you."
"I don't like being followed." Ottilie took a cab instead.
Halfway there, she received a call from Jevon.
"You really like stirring up trouble, don't you? What celebrity roams the streets by themselves? You've got a baby on board. If something happens to Yorath's heir, you'll pay for it."
The downside of a fifty-dollar phone was the painfully loud speaker.
Ottilie had to press her hand tightly against the receiver to keep the cab driver from hearing.
