Alicia’s POV
Once everyone had settled down, the waiter handed each of us a menu.
We began placing our orders one after another.
I was about to order Aimy’s meal when President Evan gently picked up the children’s menu.
"I’ll order for her."
I paused in surprise.
Without asking Aimy a single question, he calmly listed everything she liked.
"One plate of pasta with extra cheese."
"No mushrooms."
"Non-sweetened Apple juice ."
"And strawberries for dessert."
Then glanced at her "anything else?"
She simply shook her head without saying anything
Then he closed the menu with a small smile.
"That should be all."
I blinked.
Those were...
Exactly the same things I had ordered for Aimy the last time we came here.
I hadn’t expected him to remember.
After he finished, he finally ordered his own meal.
The waiter turned to me.
I quietly placed my order before handing the menu back.
As I did, I caught Anna glancing between President Evan and me.
When our eyes met, she immediately lowered her head and pretended to study the table.
A few minutes later, the waiter left.
The atmosphere gradually became livelier.
Aimy chatted happily about everything she had seen at the park.
Anna laughed along with her while President Evan occasionally replied to her endless stream of questions.
Alexander, on the other hand, remained unusually quiet.
He only spoke whenever Aimy directed a question at him.
The rest of the time...
He simply listened.
I stole a brief glance at him.
His expression was as calm as ever.
Yet somehow...
He looked distracted.
And his eyes often wandered toward Aimy.
Not long after, our meals arrived.
I served Aimy her favorite pasta first, adding a few vegetables and side dishes before placing the plate in front of her.
She immediately began eating with great enthusiasm.
Only then did I serve myself.
I wasn’t hungry.
I picked up only a small portion of food and placed it on my plate.
Just as I was about to eat, President Evan spoke.
"Alicia."
"You’ve barely taken anything."
Before I could respond, he placed a piece of grilled chicken onto my plate.
"Try this."
"It tastes quite good."
I looked up.
"Thank you."
As I spoke...
My eyes met Alexander’s.
He was already looking at me.
His expression hadn’t changed.
But there was something in his eyes I couldn’t quite understand.
Something heavy.
Something restrained.
For reasons I couldn’t explain...
I was the first to look away.
When I did, I noticed President Evan quietly observing the two of us.
His gaze lingered for only a brief moment before he lowered his eyes and continued eating as though he hadn’t noticed anything at all.
I tightened my grip on the fork.
Even though I had no appetite...
I forced myself to take another bite.
Throughout the meal...
I never looked up again.
Yet somehow...
I could still feel Alexander’s gaze lingering on me.
While we continued eating, Aimy happily chatted about the children she had met at the park.
"They had a red ball!"
"And one little girl shared her balloon with me."
She spoke so excitedly that everyone at the table listened with quiet smiles.
After a while, President Evan suddenly raised an eyebrow.
"Aren’t you forgetting something?"
Aimy looked at him curiously.
"What?"
"You told me you’d invite me the next time you went to the park."
For reasons I couldn’t explain...
I found myself imagining that scene.
Alexander running after Aimy through the park.
Listening to her endless chatter.
Watching her laugh as she chased butterflies.
The image felt so natural...
That for one brief moment...
I almost forgot that such a thing was almost impossible in our world.
After a while, we all finished eating.
President Evan and Alexander stood up almost at the same time.
"I’ll take care of the bill and be right back," President Evan said.
But Alexander was already walking toward the counter.
We watched as he reached the desk and handed over his card.
President Evan cleared his throat awkwardly before carrying Aimy into his arms.
"Shall we?" he asked, looking at me.
I stood up along with Anna, and we all headed outside.
By the time we stepped out of the restaurant, Alexander was already standing beside his car, while President Evan walked toward his own vehicle with Aimy still in his arms.
Alexander turned when we approached, and I noticed his eyes lingering on Aimy in Evan’s arms.
"Did you all drive here, or should I drop you back at the mansion?" he asked.
For a moment, none of us spoke.
I didn’t know why President Evan had asked that, because it was obvious he had seen us arrive in Alexander’s car earlier.
Then Anna broke the silence.
"Chairman Blackwood, you’ve already troubled yourself enough today. President Evan will take us back to the mansion. Thank you so much for everything."
For a brief moment, Alexander said nothing.
Instead, he looked at me, as though expecting me to say something.
When I remained silent, his gaze shifted to Aimy, and his expression softened immediately.
"I’ll see you next time, Aimy."
I looked at my daughter.
"Say thank you to Uncle for today, Aimy."
She nodded obediently.
"Thank you for today, Uncle."
A genuine smile appeared on Alexander’s face.
Slowly, he turned away and got into his car.
I don’t know why I felt that way, but at that moment, something strange stirred in my heart.
For a brief second...
I even considered stopping him.
But then he drove away.
And I could only stand there, silently watching as his car disappeared from sight.
