Third Person POV
Not far from the restaurant, Karen stood hidden, quietly watching.
She had been observing them ever since they left the park and arrived at the restaurant.
Her nails dug into her palms, her gaze dark as she watched Alexander drive away before seeing Alicia get into President Evan’s car along with Aimy and Anna.
What was so special about this woman?
Even after two years, Alexander still couldn’t forget her.
And now even the president of the company was interested in her.
Evan’s feelings for Alicia were far more obvious than anything else.
Karen could clearly see it.
And from where she stood, it almost looked as though Alicia was keeping both men around her.
Karen was at a loss.
How was she supposed to get Alicia out of Alexander’s life?
She had seen the way Alexander looked at both Alicia and her daughter.
Separating them wouldn’t be easy.
But then again...
Since Alicia had chosen to leave Alexander, it meant she didn’t want to be with him anymore... right?
Karen could tell that Alicia still loved Alexander.
She had seen it in the way she looked at him.
But she had also seen the resistance in her eyes.
After everything Alexander had done to her, it was understandable that she couldn’t forgive him so easily.
Which meant separating them might not be as difficult as Karen had first imagined.
The only obstacle now...
...was Aimy.
The little girl was the only thing still connecting them.
In other words, the only problem Karen had to deal with was Aimy.
But how could she possibly get rid of the child without drawing attention to herself?
The sudden ringing of her phone pulled her out of her thoughts.
She quickly reached into her handbag.
The phone had been ringing for quite a while now.
Earlier, when she checked, it had been Angela Blackwood calling.
She didn’t have the patience to deal with her, so she simply ignored it.
But now the ringing had become too persistent.
She intended to answer only to warn Angela not to disturb her again if she wasn’t willing to help.
However, the moment she looked at the caller ID...
She froze.
Alexander.
He had given her the day off.
Why was he calling now?
Taking a steady breath, she answered.
"Hello?"
"Karen, where are you?"
His cold voice came through the speaker.
"I... ah... I came to get something from the mall," she stammered, afraid he might somehow have seen her.
"Return to the hotel now and get our things ready."
She blinked.
"Sir?"
"We’re leaving tomorrow. Make sure everything is arranged on time."
"Alright, sir."
Without another word, Alexander hung up.
Karen stared at the dark screen of her phone.
Leaving tomorrow?
How was that possible?
Hadn’t he said he wouldn’t return to Velaridge City without Alicia and Aimy?
She had watched them at the park.
She had even overheard parts of their conversation.
From what she gathered, they hadn’t reconciled at all.
If anything, Alicia seemed determined to end things while Alexander refused to let go.
After thinking it over, Karen slowly smiled.
Whatever the reason was...
It worked in her favor.
"You know, the other day President Evan brought her and her daughter home after they went to the park. And today Chairman Blackwood from the city came to see her. They even went out together with her daughter."
Her expression darkened.
"I honestly don’t know what’s so special about her."
There was obvious jealousy in Agnes’ voice.
"After all this time, President Evan still doesn’t notice me, yet he’s paying attention to a woman with a child."
"I really don’t understand men these days."
Realization slowly dawned on Karen.
Then one of the women laughed.
"Oh... so you’re jealous because your little crush likes someone else."
"Hey!" Agnes protested, lightly hitting her arm.
"It’s not a crush."
She huffed.
"I don’t have time for you two. Come on, let’s go."
The three women walked toward the checkout counter.
Karen quietly picked up the pack of pads and followed behind them.
Even while standing in line, the other two continued teasing Agnes until her cheeks gradually turned red.
Now Karen could finally see their faces.
All three appeared to be around her age.
There was nothing particularly remarkable about any of them.
Suddenly, Agnes stepped out of the line.
"Where are you going?" one of the women asked.
"The restroom," Agnes replied simply before disappearing through a nearby door.
Karen watched her leave.
A slow smile crept onto her lips.
She had just found the opportunity she had been looking for.
Quietly, she followed Agnes into the restroom.
Agnes entered one of the stalls.
Karen stood by the sink, pretending to wash her hands.
She waited patiently.
Until Agnes finally stepped out.
