My CEO HUSBAND sign the divorce novel Chapter 279

Chapter 279: Phone call

Agnes stepped out of the stall, still feeling irritated.

Her friends had teased her endlessly just because she liked President Evan.

But was it really a crime simply because she wasn’t from a wealthy family like Alicia?

Lost in her thoughts, she didn’t even notice the woman standing by the sink.

She walked over and began washing her hands before reaching for a paper towel to dry them.

The irritation inside her made her grip the towel tighter than necessary.

"Easy there."

Karen’s voice suddenly broke the silence.

"You might end up hurting your hands."

Agnes looked up, visibly startled.

She hadn’t even realized someone else was in the restroom.

She offered a faint, polite smile but said nothing.

After throwing the towel into the bin, she headed toward the door.

Karen’s voice stopped her once again.

"You know... it really hurts when you like someone, only to watch them become attracted to someone who doesn’t deserve them."

Agnes stopped abruptly.

Realization flashed across her face.

She slowly turned around.

The restroom was empty except for the two of them.

This woman...

She must have overheard their conversation.

Keeping her guard up, Agnes forced a calm expression.

"I’m sorry, but what are you talking about?"

Karen let out a humorless chuckle.

"You don’t have to pretend."

She turned off the tap before looking directly at Agnes.

"I understand exactly how you feel."

She paused briefly.

"But don’t you think that if you truly like someone, you should at least try to have a chance with them?"

Agnes frowned.

"Ma’am... do I even know you?"

In Rosewood Town, almost everyone knew one another.

She had never seen this blonde woman before.

Karen smiled faintly.

"We don’t need to know each other to help each other."

She folded her arms casually.

"Alicia has been standing in your way, hasn’t she?"

Agnes’ expression stiffened.

"Why don’t we work together..."

Karen’s smile deepened ever so slightly.

"...and teach her a lesson?"

Understanding immediately dawned on Agnes.

So...

This woman was after Alicia.

But why?

She frowned.

"And what makes you think I’d want to hurt Alicia?"

Karen answered without hesitation.

"Because she’s standing between you and the man you like."

Agnes shook her head.

"I’m sorry, but I’m not interested."

Without another word, she turned to leave.

No matter how jealous she felt sometimes...

She couldn’t trust a complete stranger.

Especially one who had approached her like this.

Just as her hand reached the doorknob, Karen spoke again.

"What if we work together..."

She paused just long enough for Agnes to stop.

"...and I pay you for it?"

Agnes froze.

Karen watched her silently before adding,

"Think about it."

"We both get what we want."

"The only difference is..."

A faint smile appeared on her lips.

"...you walk away with two rewards instead of one."

Agnes remained standing there, unmoving.

Although she didn’t trust Karen...

She desperately needed money.

The pest infestation affecting the cotton farms had hit her family’s income hard.

And judging by her appearance alone, Karen clearly came from a wealthy background.

After a long moment of hesitation...

Agnes slowly turned around.

She had decided...

To at least hear what Karen wanted from her.

Alicia’s POV

I was in the kitchen making Aimy’s apple juice.

"It’s alright." I smiled reassuringly.

"Don’t worry about it."

Agnes quickly stepped forward, trying to wipe the juice off my shirt.

But the stain had already spread.

"This won’t do." She frowned.

"Let me get you a towel."

She tried to walk past me toward the kitchen, but I gently stopped her.

"Don’t worry about it. I’ll just go change."

My eyes dropped to the broken glass scattered across the floor.

The juice had spilled everywhere.

There wasn’t a single drop left.

Knowing Aimy would probably ask for more later, I remembered I had stored some extra in the refrigerator.

I instinctively turned toward the kitchen.

But broken pieces of glass covered the floor.

"Don’t worry about it, ma’am."

Another staff member stepped forward.

"Please go and change. We’ll clean this up."

More staff had gathered after hearing the commotion.

"Alright."

I nodded.

"I just need to get Aimy’s drink from the fridge."

"I’ll get it for you," Agnes quickly offered.

I could still see the guilt lingering in her eyes.

Perhaps letting her do something would make her feel a little better.

Besides...

I really needed to change.

"Alright, Agnes."

"Thank you."

Without wasting another second, I hurried upstairs.

When I entered my room, I pulled my phone out of my pocket.

Thankfully...

It hadn’t been soaked.

I placed it on the bedside table before walking into the walk-in closet.

After changing into a clean shirt, I returned to the room.

Just then...

My phone started ringing again.

I walked over and looked at the screen.

It was the same number.....
