"We should leave, Angela."
I looked up to see Uncle Steve walking back into the living room.
His eyes moved between the two of us before one brow lifted slightly.
"Or did I interrupt something?"
"No, you didn’t," I replied calmly before instinctively looking behind him.
"Where’s Alicia?"
"She went upstairs to check on the children," he answered.
"Didn’t you notice when she walked past?"
I shook my head.
My attention had been elsewhere.
"I’ll go check on her."
I had barely taken a step toward the staircase when I heard soft footsteps.
I looked up.
A moment later, Alicia appeared at the top of the stairs, carefully walking down while holding both little girls by the hand.
A smile found its way onto my lips.
The two of them descended slowly, Aimy and Bella quietly following beside her.
"Why didn’t you ask me to help you bring them downstairs?" I asked as they reached the bottom.
She smiled faintly.
"It wasn’t any trouble."
Bella immediately ran toward Aunt Angela, who stood beside Uncle Steve.
At the same time, I bent down and lifted Aimy into my arms.
Alicia turned toward Uncle Steve.
"Uncle, won’t you stay for dinner?"
I couldn’t hide my surprise.
After everything that had happened earlier...
I hadn’t expected her to invite them to stay.
Because even though Alicia had always been fond of uncle Steve just like he also cares for her, Aunt Angela was still here but Alicia had still asked them both stay.
Uncle Steve smiled warmly.
"I’d love to."
"But Mrs. Evelyn has already prepared dinner for us."
"It would be a shame to let it go to waste."
Alicia laughed softly.
"Alright."
"But you have to come next time."
"We definitely will."
"You’re staying at the mansion?" I asked.
Mrs. Evelyn had served my grandparents for decades and now looked after the mansion.
Uncle Steve nodded.
"I wanted us to stay somewhere else."
"But Angela wished to spend a few days somewhere that still held your grandparents’ memories."
Without thinking, I glanced toward Aunt Angela.
She wasn’t looking at any of us.
Her eyes rested quietly on Aimy.
There was a softness in her gaze I hadn’t seen in a very long time.
For a brief moment, a heaviness settled in my chest.
I remembered how she’d asked to hold Aimy earlier.
Deep down, I knew Aunt Angela wasn’t pretending.
But no matter what I believed...
I couldn’t allow that without Alicia’s permission.
So I remained silent.
Together, we walked them outside.
When we reached their car, Alicia hugged Uncle Steve once more.
"You should bring Aimy to the mansion before I leave," Uncle Steve said with a smile.
"We still have a lot to talk about."
Alicia instinctively glanced at Aunt Angela before looking back at him.
Seeing the reassurance in his eyes, she smiled faintly.
"I will."
"Aimy," I said gently.
"Say goodbye to Grandpa and Bella."
"Goodbye, Grandpa."
"Goodbye, Bella."
Uncle Steve’s eyes softened at hearing her call him Grandpa for the very first time.
He stepped closer and gently held her tiny hand.
"I’ll come and see you again, alright?"
Aimy nodded obediently.
He then looked at me.
"Alexander."
"I’ll stop by the company tomorrow."
"Alright, Uncle."
"Angela."
He gently called to Aunt Angela, gesturing toward the car.
She reached for Bella’s hand.
Just then, Alicia crouched down to hug Bella goodbye.
For a brief second, Aunt Angela parted her lips.
As though she wanted to say something.
In the end...
She said nothing.
She simply looked at Alicia.
Then at Aimy in my arms.
Before quietly getting into the car.
We stood there until their car disappeared beyond the estate gates.
Only then did I reach for Alicia’s hand.
She looked at me briefly before lacing her fingers with mine.
Without another word...
We walked back into the villa together.
Only after we returned to the living room did I notice the pile of gift boxes stacked neatly beside one of the sofas.
Alicia seemed to notice them at the same time.
I stopped by Aimy’s room first.
She was already asleep.
A small smile tugged at my lips.
She even pouted in her sleep exactly like Alicia.
Although she had inherited most of my features...
The little habits she shared with her mother were impossible to miss.
I gently tucked the duvet around her shoulders before leaning down to kiss her forehead.
"I love you," I whispered softly.
Then I quietly left the room.
When I returned to the master bedroom, the lights were still on.
Just as I’d expected.
Alicia was sitting against the headboard with her laptop resting on her lap.
She looked up the moment I entered.
"Done already?"
"Mmm."
I climbed into bed beside her.
"What about you?"
"Almost."
I leaned comfortably against the headboard, watching her work in silence for a while.
Eventually, I broke the silence.
"What are your plans for work?"
Her fingers paused above the keyboard.
She turned slightly toward me.
"I don’t know."
She shrugged.
"I guess I’ll have to resign from Whitemore Industries."
I reached over and gently took her hand.
"You don’t have to."
"If you don’t want to."
"We can figure something out."
I said gently.
Whitemore Industries belonged to her family, and I knew how much Rosewood Town meant to her. After all, it was where she’d found peace... where she’d slowly healed over the past two years. It was also where she felt closest to her mother.
I could never imagine becoming the reason she abandoned all of that again.
But Alicia smiled, looking almost amused.
"By arrangement, you mean I could return to Rosewood Town for work?"
I nodded.
"Then whenever I can, I’ll come see you."
I added.
Alicia raised a brow.
"What about Aimy?"
I glanced instinctively toward the door before looking back at Alicia.
"She can go with you if you want."
Alicia studied me quietly for a long moment. Then, without another word, she inched closer and leaned gently against me.
