My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 101

"Who was that man?" Lucian suddenly changed the subject, his voice cutting through the quiet.

"Which one?"

"The one you spent half the night talking to." Lucian's tone was deadpan.

But whether it was her imagination or not, Seraphina felt a sudden prickle of apprehension on the back of her neck.

Lucian sounded exactly like a husband interrogating a cheating wife.

Little Bean gloated from within, "Mommy, Daddy definitely saw that. He's so jealous right now."

Seraphina didn't have time to respond to her unborn child.

"You mean Gideon Grant? He's a partner at Stellaris Capital. He was interested in my patents and wanted to discuss a potential partnership," Seraphina answered honestly.

Lucian narrowed his eyes. "Stellaris Capital?"

"Yeah."

"He's the youngest Grant brother," Lucian remarked casually.

Seraphina paused in surprise. "You know him?"

"Not personally, I just know of him. It's fine if he wants to talk business. But before you sign anything, I need to review the contract."

Seraphina frowned. "Is that really necessary? I can handle it myself..."

"Sera." Lucian cut her off, his tone turning noticeably more serious. "You're not alone anymore."

The words caught in Seraphina's throat.

She looked down, her heart racing at an abnormal speed.

Little Bean was bouncing off the walls inside her. "Daddy is so manly! Just say yes, Mommy! Daddy is looking out for you!"

Seraphina rolled her eyes internally.

Whose side was this little traitor on, anyway?

"I got it," she murmured softly.

The corners of Lucian's mouth turned up in a minuscule arc, but Seraphina caught it.

This man really looked breathtaking when he smiled.

Seraphina knew perfectly well that those entrepreneurs and investors had only been so eager to talk to her because she was standing next to Lucian.

Though she wasn't keen on riding his coattails, she had to admit it had saved her a tremendous amount of effort tonight.

Lucian twisted the cap off the bottle and took a sip, his Adam's apple bobbing smoothly.

Dressed in an impeccably tailored black suit, leaning back on the cream-colored hotel sofa with his long legs crossed, he looked like he belonged on a billboard for a luxury brand.

"Don't mention it," he said, setting the bottle on the coffee table. "You are Mrs. Langford. It's a privilege that comes with the title."

Seraphina sat down in the armchair across from him, her eyelashes fluttering at his words.

Mrs. Langford.

Hearing him say it always gave her an inexplicable jolt.

"That might be true, but I still want to rely on my own abilities. I can borrow your influence once or twice, but I can't lean on it forever."

Lucian stared at her, his gaze intense and unfathomable, like a deep, bottomless pool.

"Who said you have to lean on it forever?" he said. "Once you've made a name for yourself, that's your own influence. When people come to you then, it won't be because you're Mrs. Langford. It'll be because you're Seraphina Simmons."
