Back at the bar, Melody lowered her phone, a victorious smirk playing on her lips.
Kenny stared at her sudden theatrics, thoroughly bewildered.
"I haven't even done anything yet. What's with the crazy overreaction?"
Suppressing her disgust, Melody knew she had to keep this guy engaged until Lucian arrived.
She softened her voice, batting her eyelashes in mock fear. "You came on so strong... you terrified me."
Kenny, completely misreading the situation, assumed she was just playing hard to get.
His smirk widened into something thoroughly obnoxious. "I get it. You're into me, but you're feeling guilty because of that boyfriend of yours, right?"
Listening to his delusional confidence, Melody practically rolled her eyes out of her skull.
The sheer arrogance of this man was astounding.
Keeping her expression carefully neutral, she offered a coy, "Maybe."
Taking that as a green light, Kenny's excitement spiked, thoroughly convinced he had her figured out.
Meanwhile, at the Langford residence.
Lucian slipped his phone back into his pocket.
Inside Seraphina's womb, Little Bean excitedly chimed in. *Mom! You can't let Dad go! That Melody Monroe isn't in danger at all. She's completely faking it just to lure him out there! If he goes, she's never going to leave him alone!*
The telepathic voice grew frantic with righteous indignation. *I refuse to let anyone sabotage my parents' romance! I'm your official love bodyguard!*
Listening to her unborn son's dramatic rant, Seraphina couldn't help but chuckle softly.
But once her amusement faded, a flicker of unease settled in.
She had crossed paths with Melody a few times before, and the woman had always reeked of arrogant entitlement.
Lucian stood before her, adjusting his cuffs. "Melody claims she's run into some trouble at a club and needs my help. Considering our families have been close for years, I can't exactly ignore it."
He paused, his dark eyes locking onto hers with unmistakable intensity. "However, considering I am a married man, I was wondering if you'd like to come with me to check on the situation?"
Seraphina blinked, genuinely surprised.
The moment it clicked shut, Little Bean panicked. *Mom! Why didn't you go with him?! Are you really that trusting?*
Seraphina sank back into the plush sofa, resting a gentle hand over her belly, her voice perfectly calm.
"I trust him."
*But that Melody woman...*
"Your dad said it himself. He's a married man now."
"The fact that he offered to take me proves his conscience is completely clear."
"If I actually went, it would just make me look petty and insecure."
Little Bean pondered this and realized his mother had a solid point, though he still fretted.
*But what if she pulls some kind of sneaky stunt?*
Seraphina's eyelashes fluttered as she stared thoughtfully ahead. "If your father couldn't see through cheap parlor tricks, he never would have made it to where he is today."
