Melody's lips curved into a serene, almost pitying smile. "Harmony, do you honestly think I'd let myself be publicly associated with someone of her standing?"
Harmony blinked, processing the implication.
Melody's tone was completely indifferent. "I'm just going to have a cup of coffee with her and listen to her complain."
"Whatever she manages to gain from me depends entirely on her own usefulness."
"All I care about is what I can extract from her."
Understanding washed over Harmony's face. She nodded quickly. "I'll get it set up immediately."
Early the next afternoon.
Inside a highly exclusive, private VIP room at The Alabaster Club.
Sienna arrived a full twenty minutes early.
She had chosen a modest, pale yellow sundress and kept her makeup impeccably light and unassuming.
She knew exactly what the name Melody Monroe meant in the capital's high-society circles.
This was a true, undisputed socialite. The kind of woman who commanded the absolute attention of any room she graced just by sitting down.
Sienna had only ever seen Melody from a distance at elite galas, never even possessing the social standing required to introduce herself.
Now, Melody had reached out to her. Sienna's nerves were buzzing.
Taking a deep breath outside the heavy wooden doors, Sienna pushed them open and stepped inside.
To her shock, Melody was already there.
Sienna quickly arranged her features into a perfect, polite smile and kept her voice soft and deferential.
"Hi, Melody. I'm Sienna. Traffic was awful—I'm so sorry to keep you waiting."
Melody looked up, flashing a gentle, entirely flawless smile. "Not at all. I just arrived myself. Have a seat."
Sienna took the chair opposite her, leaning into the flattery immediately. "Melody, you're even more stunning in person than in your photos."
Sienna was stunned. "What?"
"We've both lost something incredibly important to us because of Seraphina."
Sienna's heart hammered violently against her ribs.
She stared into Melody's eyes, the pieces suddenly clicking into place.
Melody wasn't here to make idle chatter or offer pity. She was scouting for an ally to help destroy Seraphina.
Sienna had heard the rumors that Lucian and Melody were childhood sweethearts. That had to be it. That was the only reason a woman of Melody's status would stoop to her level.
Unable to hide her excitement, Sienna's voice trembled slightly. "Melody... is that really how you feel?"
Melody didn't answer directly, simply offering a vague, elegant smile.
Taking the opening, Sienna drew a shaky breath, letting the tears spill over. "To be completely honest with you, Melody, I'm at the end of my rope. Everyone in the city is treating me like a laughingstock. My dad tries to protect me, but he is completely powerless against Seraphina."
"I know I made mistakes in the past, but I only did it because I was so desperately in love with Sebastian."
