My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 460

Melody felt completely cornered. As a last resort, she looked back at Lucian.

"Lucian, do you honestly see me like that too?"

Lucian ignored her entirely, looking up at his wife.

"Did you get everything?"

Seraphina nodded.

"Yes."

"Then let's head home so you can start reading."

Seraphina grabbed the handles of his wheelchair and headed for the exit.

Melody hurled one final, desperate insult after them.

"Ms. Simmons, do you even know the first thing about green energy technology?"

Seraphina stopped in her tracks.

Melody spat the words out like venom.

"I'm not trying to be condescending. But making soup in a kitchen and running high-stakes corporate developments are two entirely different worlds. The Langford Group can't afford an amateur treating their operations like a vanity project."

"What are you going to do? Lecture Lucian's engineering department on how much salt to add to their broth?"

In Melody's eyes, Seraphina was nothing more than a pathetic, uneducated housewife.

Seraphina looked over her shoulder with an icy glare. "Once again, that is none of your business."

Melody's lips tightened into a thin, furious line.

Seraphina tucked the heavy book under her arm and resumed pushing Lucian toward the door.

"You really think just because Lucian has a soft spot for you, you can casually stroll into his company and start barking orders?"

Seraphina paused right at the threshold and turned to face her one last time.

"Whether I set foot in his company or not, I certainly don't need your approval."

"Langford Group's portfolio isn't your personal playground to prove your worth."

"I don't need to use his company as a stepping stone to prove anything."

Lucian placed a warm hand over hers. "Though, if you did want to use my company as a stepping stone, you're more than welcome to."

Seraphina stared down at him.

"Stay out of this."

Lucian instantly clamped his mouth shut like a well-trained soldier.

Melody watched the flawless dynamic between them—his unconditional support, her absolute command—and let out a bitter, choked laugh.

"Lucian, you're going to regret this."

Lucian finally looked her dead in the eye.

"The only thing I regret is ever giving you enough leeway to foster these delusions."

The last remnants of color completely drained from Melody's face.

"Excuse me?"

"Never use the phrase 'old friends' as an excuse to talk to me ever again."

He squeezed his wife's hand tightly.

"It makes my wife uncomfortable."

Seraphina's fingers twitched slightly, but she made no effort to stop him.

Some boundaries simply needed to be drawn in permanent ink.

Melody stood rigidly by the register. Even though the aisles were empty, she felt like the entire bookstore was pointing and laughing at her humiliation.

Trembling, she reached up to push a stray strand of hair behind her ear.

"Fine. I understand."

Seraphina didn't waste another breath on her, wheeling Lucian straight out of the store.

A harsh night wind swept through the commercial plaza. Seraphina clutched the research bag tighter against her chest.

Lucian looked up at her.
