My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 469

"Who told you that?"

"A few years ago at that banquet, I called out to you, and you completely ignored me."

Professor Monroe looked incredibly uncomfortable.

"I saw the people standing next to you laughing at you. I knew if I opened my mouth, I'd end up cursing them out and causing more trouble for you."

Seraphina froze.

He quickly tacked on, "You were still tied to the Sullivans back then. If I humiliated them in public, they'd make your life a living hell behind closed doors."

Her fingers tightened into a fist. "So you weren't disowning me?"

He frowned, looking even more offended. "You were my student. Why would I disown you?"

Caleb chimed in from the sidelines. "Sera, the Professor came back that night and ranted for half the evening, complaining that someone had stolen your brain."

He glared at his assistant. "Did I ask you to speak?"

Caleb immediately zipped his lips.

Lowering her head, she let out a soft laugh, though her eyes pricked with heat.

"You were right, Professor. I really wasn't thinking clearly back then."

He studied her for a moment before letting out a gruff sigh. "As long as you're awake now, that's all that matters."

She pushed the book toward him.

"So... are you still willing to let me come back?"

He flipped open the manuscript. Catching sight of the detailed annotations she had made the night before, his face returned to its usual sternness.

"Whether I'm willing or not depends on your skills, not our past."

She nodded.

"Perfect. I wouldn't want to rely on our past anyway."

He stared at her for a few seconds before barking a laugh. "Your attitude certainly hasn't changed."

His phone buzzed.

Glancing at the caller ID, he picked it up and gave a few short replies.

"She's here?"

"Tell her to wait."

"I'm busy with someone right now."

After he hung up, she asked, "Is everything okay, Professor?"

He tossed his phone back onto the desk.

"Someone recommended a youngster with a supposedly pristine resume in green energy. We set up an interview for today."

Caleb's expression shifted slightly.

Catching the change, Seraphina looked over.

"Do you know them, Caleb?"

Caleb remained silent, his eyes darting to the Professor.
