My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 78

What a perfectly calculated scheme!

Back when Samuel first realized she controlled those shares, he used every dirty trick in the book to try and steal them out from under her.

When he finally accepted that he couldn't legally seize them, he completely blacklisted her, ensuring she could never set foot inside the executive boardroom.

Back then, she had been a hopeless romantic, so completely obsessed with Sebastian that she barely even cared about the corporate politics.

Looking back on it now, she had been unbelievably naive.

"Seraphina, is that any way to talk to me? We're family," Samuel rebuked smoothly.

Seraphina's grip on her phone tightened.

Family?

Oh, so now that he was backed into a corner and needed a bailout, they were family.

But it wasn't so long ago that he was screaming in her face, calling her a worthless, ungrateful daughter.

Seraphina couldn't even be bothered to argue with his hypocrisy.

Met with nothing but dead silence, Samuel quickly changed tactics. "Our cash flow hit a nasty snag, and our operational capital is practically frozen. I was thinking... you're still holding thirty percent of The Simmons Group's shares, right? Do you think you could..."

He trailed off, leaving the actual request hanging awkwardly in the air.

But Seraphina had already deduced exactly what he wanted.

He wanted her to surrender her shares.

Or, at the very least, he wanted her to use them as collateral to secure a massive loan to save his dying empire.

A razor-sharp sneer curled onto Seraphina's lips.

"Those shares were left to me by Grandpa. He explicitly told me never to let them go," she stated coolly.

Samuel's voice immediately spiked with panic. "Seraphina, I know! But the company is staring down the barrel of total bankruptcy right now! Your grandfather spent his entire life building this empire. Are you really going to sit back and watch his legacy burn to the ground?"

Seraphina stayed silent for a few agonizing seconds.

Grandpa...

Without giving him a fraction of a second to reply, she ended the call.

Samuel was so enraged he nearly hurled his phone against the wall, but pure survival instinct reminded him that he couldn't afford an open war with Seraphina right now.

Sucking in a ragged breath, he frantically scrolled through his contacts and dialed another number.

Meanwhile, even after hanging up, Seraphina's blood was still practically boiling.

She had never encountered such shameless audacity in her entire life—and to think that man was supposed to be her biological father.

There was absolutely no way in hell she was going to let him win.

However, his desperate little phone call had presented her with the perfect opening.

She had been racking her brain for weeks, trying to figure out how to claw her way into the company.

First, it was her grandfather's dying wish. And second, she wanted to prove to everyone in that wretched family that Seraphina Simmons was not a woman to be messed with.

She was going to take back The Simmons Group—not just for her grandfather, but for herself.
