"Marcus, who do you think you are? The Miller heir? Or the high-and-mighty CEO?" Meredith's voice trembled, yet remained exceptionally firm. "In my eyes, you're nothing but a selfish, ruthless scumbag!"
"This slap is for framing me and sending me to prison all those years ago!"
Before the echo faded, she raised her hand again and brought it down hard.
*Smack!*
The crisp sound of the slap echoed through the empty space.
Marcus was completely stunned.
He couldn't accept that this once submissive sister, someone he considered worthless, actually dared to lay a hand on him.
"And that slap—just because I can't stand the sight of you." Meredith shook her stinging hand, her eyes full of contempt.
"Meredith, you bitch! You'll pay dearly for what you've done today!" Marcus finally snapped back to reality, struggling and cursing wildly. "I'll drag you and this lunatic to hell with me!"
"So loud."
Phoenix furrowed her brows and kicked out, sending Marcus crashing to the ground.
"Merry, are two slaps enough?" she asked, turning to Meredith.
Meredith shook her head and let out a long breath. "Phoenix, I've vented my anger. Besides, his skin is so thick it made my hand hurt."
Phoenix's lips curled into a smirk. She reached out to smooth Meredith's messy hair, then her gaze hardened. She abruptly raised her foot and stomped heavily on Marcus's supporting wrist.
*Crack!*
The sickening sound of bone shattering suddenly rang out, shocking everyone present.
The two members of The Obsidian Syndicate standing nearby felt the hairs on their arms stand up. This woman's ruthlessness was truly terrifying.
Even Leo felt a chill run down his spine. Phoenix looked like a delicate flower, but when she struck, she was a predator.
She was definitely worthy of being Yara's handpicked successor—utterly ruthless and decisive.
"Argh!"
Marcus let out a bloodcurdling scream, his eyes bloodshot and bulging.
But his miserable state didn't evoke a shred of pity from Phoenix. Expressionless, she raised her foot again and brutally crushed the bones in Marcus's other hand.
"Argh!"
Overwhelmed by the agonizing pain, Marcus's eyes rolled back, and he instantly passed out.
"Tsk, passed out already? What a loser." Phoenix pulled her foot back in disgust.
"Phoenix, that's enough," Meredith said, pulling her arm with a hint of worry. "No matter what, he's still the Miller heir. If they really look into this..."
Despite spending years in that same purgatory, this girl had managed to retain her innocence. She could never be as ruthless as Phoenix.
Looking into her clear eyes, Phoenix sighed inwardly. This innocence was too precious; she could never let Meredith turn into someone like her. She would gladly bear all the world's evil and sins on her own shoulders.
"Phoenix!"
Just then, Macy Monroe burst into the room.
Seeing Meredith, she paused for a moment. "Is this our new friend?"
Meredith instinctively showed a hint of wariness, then looked at Phoenix with questioning eyes.
"Let me introduce you." Phoenix pointed at Macy. "This is my best friend from before prison, Macy Monroe, the current CEO of Ignis Global."
Then she pointed to Meredith. "And this is the good friend I met inside, Meredith Miller, CEO of Lumina Jewelry."
"Ah, Ms. Miller, I've heard so much about you." Macy sat down casually. "Ignis Global and Lumina Jewelry have collaborated before."
"I know." Meredith nodded. Since this was Phoenix's friend, she let her guard down. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
The two girls with very different personalities quickly hit it off, going from professional flattery to casual gossip. Eventually, they were chatting so enthusiastically that they completely left Phoenix out of the loop.
Phoenix was speechless.
She felt like she had been ruthlessly sidelined.
