"Meredith!"

A cold shout suddenly rang out from the side.

Meredith paused in her tracks and turned to look, only to see a handsome man striding toward her.

"Milo?!"

This was her uncle's son, and technically her cousin.

"Did you just meet with Mavis?" Milo furrowed his brows, glancing warily toward the shop, lowering his voice. "I'm warning you, don't listen to her nonsense! Both Marcus and Mavis are a pack of bloodthirsty wolves who wouldn't hesitate to devour you for profit."

Meredith was stunned, a bit surprised. "Are you... showing concern for me?"

Milo's expression shifted slightly. He scoffed coldly and turned his head away. "I'm warning you not to ruin my plans. Grandfather's illness doesn't require a kidney transplant at all. This is entirely Marcus's scheme!"

"Milo—"

Hearing his actual name instead of an insult made Milo's face grow even darker. "What did you just call me?"

"Milo. Is there a problem?" Meredith smiled faintly, speaking matter-of-factly. "Unless... you prefer I call you 'Milo the Scumbag'?"

"You!" A flash of anger appeared on Milo's face. "Seems those years inside have made you quite sharp-tongued."

"Milo, did you have a hand in sending me to prison back then?" Meredith suddenly threw out the question, looking him straight in the eyes.

Milo frowned and chuckled mockingly. "Is there any point in asking that now? If I say no, would you believe me? Don't forget, right before you went to prison, you cursed me out..."

"I believe you," Meredith interrupted him, her gaze incredibly firm.

Milo was utterly shocked, seemingly unable to believe his ears. "You... you actually believe me?"

"Yes." Meredith nodded. "I thought about it a lot while I was inside. The biggest beneficiary of that incident was Marcus, so he had to be the one who orchestrated the whole thing."

Milo's tense shoulders relaxed, and he revealed a relieved smile. "You've grown quite a bit."

"When the fall hurts that much, how could I not learn my lesson? Besides, I have..." Meredith looked toward the Maserati, her gaze instantly softening. "If I were still stupidly naive, I'd deserve to be schemed against."

Milo followed her gaze and saw a figure in the driver's seat of the Maserati quietly watching them.

"Merry, since you're out, don't wade back into these muddy waters," he said, pulling his gaze back and warning her solemnly. "As for Grandfather, I'll track down the Azure Healer to treat him. Once Grandfather wakes up, Marcus's schemes will crumble."

Now, looking at Mavis right in front of her, she believed it.

"Mavis, pack up that hypocritical act." Milo interrupted her coldly, without a hint of hesitation in his voice. "My uncle and aunt might be blinded by your tears, but I won't be."

"Milo?!" Mavis's eyes widened in utter disbelief as she stared at him, her voice trembling. "I just wanted to make this family a little more harmonious. Is that a crime? Merry doesn't understand me, but are you going to misunderstand me too?"

"Shut up!" Milo snapped impatiently, his gaze like a blade. "Back then, if it weren't for you intentionally making insinuations in front of Merry and sowing discord, would she have misunderstood me for all these years?"

Hearing this, Meredith's gaze suddenly sharpened.

The floodgates of her memory swung open, bringing her back to that scene from years ago—it was Mavis's seemingly "unintentional" sigh that had planted the seeds of doubt.

Back then, Mavis had casually mentioned, "I saw Milo just walking out of Marcus's office, and right after that, you went in..."

It was exactly this understated remark that had convinced the old Meredith beyond a shadow of a doubt that Milo had pushed her under the bus as the scapegoat.

If Phoenix hadn't helped her dissect the details and lock onto Marcus with the "who benefits most" logic, she probably would have treated Milo as an enemy to this day.

"Milo, I didn't..." Mavis's eyes instantly went red, tears teetering on her eyelashes. Her pitiful appearance was enough to make any uninformed bystander think that Milo was bullying her. "I really just made a passing comment back then. I never imagined it would make Merry misunderstand you like that..."
