Big Sal, clearly lacking self-preservation instincts, swung his machete wildly and spat a string of obscenities.
"So what if you brought backup? Once you step into The Warrens, you play by our rules! None of you are walking out of here alive!"
His scarred face twisted into a grotesque grin as his predatory gaze swept over them. "We'll gut the men for their organs, and the women... you're coming straight to my bed."
The surrounding thugs snickered, inching closer like a pack of hyenas.
"Are you out of your damn minds?!" Caspian scowled, stepping out of the car. "Open your eyes and look at who you're talking to!"
"I don't give a shit who he is! Even the king of the world bleeds in my territory!"
"The Reaper of Cloudhaven!"
Caspian's booming declaration hit the slums like a thunderbolt.
The chaotic crowd fell into a split-second of dead silence. Big Sal paused, rubbing his eyes to get a better look at Pierce. That icy, statuesque face matched the terrifying rumors of Cloudhaven's most ruthless overlord.
But doubt quickly set in. Why would the infamous Reaper lower himself to visit a filthy slum in Highport?
"So what if he's the Reaper?!" Big Sal's eyes burned with the reckless desperation of a man with nothing to lose. "This is my turf! Now that you're here, you're not leaving in one piece!"
"Pathetic." Pierce finally stepped forward, his eyes dark and abyssal as they locked onto Big Sal. "It seems you are completely unaware of your own stupidity."
The piercing glare sent a shiver down the thug's spine, but Big Sal forced himself to raise his weapon. "Get 'em, boys! Kill him!"
Before the words fully left his mouth, the shadows shifted.
Dozens of elite bodyguards clad in black materialized from the surrounding alleys. They moved with military precision, instantly surrounding the disorganized mob of thugs with an overwhelming aura of violence.
Staring at the sudden army, Big Sal nearly dropped his machete. His bravado vanished entirely. "What... what is this?! Who are you people?!"
"Starting to get scared?" Caspian crossed his arms, clicking his tongue. "You really are blind, Sal. These are Pierce's personal enforcers. Did you really think his reach didn't extend to the city right next door?"
The cold, hard truth finally pierced through Big Sal's thick skull, revealing the terrifying weight behind the title 'The Reaper of Cloudhaven'.
It wasn't just his personal brutality that was frightening, but the overwhelming empire of power backing him.
Pierce didn't even bother looking at the man anymore. He turned his back and casually waved his hand, his tone as indifferent as brushing off lint.
"Make them disappear."
"Yes, Sir!"
