Outcast Queen: Her Return from Hell novel Chapter 236

Julian went completely rigid. Following the man's gaze, he turned his head and crashed straight into Phoenix's half-smiling eyes. His face drained of color as an unspeakable wave of embarrassment rushed to his head, making him wish the floor would swallow him whole.

Phoenix stepped forward gracefully in her heels, her lips curving upward. "Mr. Langley, you must be joking. You are my brother's esteemed guest. How could I possibly steal you away?"

Mr. Langley raised an eyebrow, waving his hand dismissively. "There are no esteemed guests in business. We're all merchants here. We go wherever the wind blows and the profit flows."

He made a point to bow slightly toward Phoenix. "Ms. Prescott, I eagerly look forward to working with you."

"We'll see, we'll see," Phoenix replied, neither agreeing nor refusing, leaving plenty of room for interpretation.

Mr. Langley didn't push. After a few more pleasantries, he hurried off, leaving Julian standing alone, his silhouette utterly defeated.

Phoenix threw him a brief glance and kept walking straight toward the elevators without stopping.

"Phoenix!"

She hadn't taken more than a few steps when Julian's raspy voice called out from behind.

Her footsteps slowed, and she raised an eyebrow. Was he about to throw another tantrum and warn her not to steal his resources?

She turned around, her expression aloof. "What do you want, Julian?"

Julian quickly walked over, his expression conflicted. "The Prescott Group and Mr. Langley's company have worked together for a long time. The corporation is gearing up for a new project, and he is our top choice. But since I've lost my footing, that old fox is playing hard to get, trying to squeeze a bigger cut out of us."

Phoenix frowned slightly. "Why are you telling me this?"

"I want you to take over the project." Julian took a deep breath, looking as if he had made a monumental decision. "With your current momentum, Mr. Langley wouldn't dare act so arrogant..."

"Hold on." Phoenix raised a hand, cutting him off, a flash of surprise in her eyes. "You want to hand over a long-term partner like Mr. Langley... to me?"

Had hell frozen over? Not only did he skip the insults, but he was actively offering up his resources on a silver platter?

Julian avoided her gaze, his voice low. "For the good of the company, it's best if you step in."

Phoenix narrowed her eyes and suddenly took a step forward, invading his space.

Even though Julian was nearly six feet tall, standing before a fully unleashed Phoenix made him feel incredibly small. The invisible, suffocating pressure radiating off her made his chest tight.
