Pierce froze slightly, his brow furrowing. “You took Arthur hostage?”
“Hahahaha, you guessed it!” Silas flashed a triumphant grin, prying Pierce's grip off his collar to break free.
He casually smoothed out his wrinkled clothes and wiped the blood from his mouth before speaking. “If I don't walk safely out of the Sterling Group building by six in the morning... you'll be collecting Arthur's body.”
“Silas, you bastard!” Pierce's pupils contracted as he reached out to grab him again.
But this time, Silas swatted his hand away, his eyes full of venom. “You're right, Pierce. I am a bastard. But who told Arthur to be so biased?”
“He favored Percival, and he favored you.”
“I thought that after Percival lost his wife and gave up on the business, Arthur would pass the empire to me. But he didn't.”
“He would rather shoulder the burden himself and spend all his time grooming you to be his successor than let his second son take over.”
His voice gradually lowered, filled with deep-seated bitterness.
Silas exhaled slowly, flicking a speck of dust off his collar. “So, he brought this entirely upon himself.”
Pierce narrowed his eyes, his fists clenching tight.
Suddenly, a predatory smirk crept across his face. “You said if you don't walk out of the Sterling Group alive by six o'clock, I'll have to collect Arthur's body...”
Silas met Pierce's crazed, bloodshot eyes and felt a violent jolt of panic in his chest.
“What are you going to do?”
Pierce took a deep breath, an overwhelming, murderous aura radiating from him. “I'll let you walk out alive, but... I get to decide exactly how you walk out of here!”
Silas's face went ghastly pale.
He felt the sheer magnitude of Pierce's rage and malice. With this madman's methods, he was going to be wishing for death.
“Pierce...”
Phoenix called out to him just as he was about to strike.
“Phoenix, don't stop me...” Pierce assumed she was going to talk him out of it, until he saw her holding out a small pocketknife.
“This blade is completely dull. It'll hurt and torture him a lot more when it cuts.”
Pierce's eyes lit up, staring at her in genuine surprise.
Silas, meanwhile, was paralyzed with terror. Were these the words of a human being? Was he absolutely sure these two weren't literal demons?
Pierce took the knife and grabbed Silas, violently jerking the man toward him.
“Pierce, stop! Stop! Are you really going to let Arthur die?!” Silas was spiraling into a panic. Despite his tough words, his legs were visibly shaking.
“You said it yourself. As long as you don't walk out of here alive, Arthur is done for. So, I'll leave you with a single breath just so you can make it out the door.”
Pierce's gaze turned glacial as he forcefully plunged the dull knife right into Silas's thigh.
Blinding agony tore through Silas's entire body, sending him into violent convulsions, but Pierce pinned him ruthlessly to the floor, making it impossible to escape.
