"Mr. Prescott, it's terrible! Phoebe is live-streaming and publicly accusing Ms. Prescott right now." The butler's forehead was slick with cold sweat as he spoke rapidly. "She edited the footage from the recognition banquet and played it for millions of viewers. The internet is completely losing its mind. The backlash is apocalyptic."
Alistair narrowed his cloudy eyes, his knuckles turning stark white as he gripped the tablet. "Phoebe... that girl really loves playing dirty. She wouldn't pull a stunt like this unless she already had the raw files in her possession. By controlling the original footage, she completely dictates the narrative."
"Hah. She looks like a fragile little doll, but her mind is dripping with venom." Arthur Sterling glanced at the screen, letting out a cold, derisive scoff. "Alistair, why do you keep a snake like that in your house?"
"A poisoned blade is still a blade. If it kills my enemies, why wouldn't I use it?" Alistair replied, his expression stone-cold.
Arthur froze for a second, then shook his head. He wanted to ask, *Aren't you afraid of getting cut?*, but he swallowed the words.
It was exactly like his own situation with Silas. He had originally thought Silas was just a harmless, incompetent fool who could be placated with a meaningless executive title. Who could have predicted that the animal would attempt to murder his own sister-in-law out of pure greed? By the time the truth came out, the damage was irreversible. But Silas was his own flesh and blood—how could he possibly send his son to rot in a prison cell?
At the end of the day, he and Alistair were the exact same breed of monster. The empire's survival trumped everything else. Family was just another currency to be traded.
"So, what's your play, Alistair?" Arthur couldn't help but ask. "You know the truth behind that video. Your word carries monumental weight in this city. If you step forward and vouch for Phoenix, you could probably force the tide to turn."
"I will not involve myself," Alistair fired back ruthlessly. "I am the patriarch of the Prescott family. If I stoop down to physically defend a rogue granddaughter, I'd make us a laughingstock among the elites. If Phoenix can't even survive a media storm, she has no right to inherit the Prescott empire."
The moment the words left his mouth, Phoebe dropped a nuclear bomb on the live stream.
"Everyone, my conscience has been torturing me for days. I haven't been able to sleep," Phoebe cried into the camera. Her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked utterly shattered and helpless. "But to bring the real victim some closure, I have to tell the truth."
"Four years ago, my sister killed a man in a horrific car crash. She only served four years in prison. Now she's out, parading around in high society, living a life of luxury. Meanwhile, the victim's life... has been completely annihilated!"
"For the last four years, I've tried endlessly to offer him financial compensation, but he refused every single time."
"He told me our money was stained with blood. He hates Phoenix. He despises everything the Prescott family stands for! He would rather live in the absolute squalor of The Warrens and dig through dumpsters for rotting food than take a single dime from us!"
Hitting the emotional climax of her speech, two perfect tears slipped down Phoebe's cheeks. She looked so tragically beautiful and broken that she practically demanded the world's protection.
The live chat instantly shattered into pure, unadulterated chaos. The hate poured in like a tidal wave.
[This is sickening! She killed someone and only got four years? There's absolutely a massive cover-up here!]
