Outcast Queen: Her Return from Hell novel Chapter 327

Phoenix laughed. It was a hollow, manic sound. "Alistair, is that really what you believe? Did you forget that four years ago, Phoebe was the one behind the wheel?! Warren, Vanessa, and my three brothers—my own family—threw me under the bus to protect their precious adopted daughter!"

"No! How can you lie like that?!" Phoebe cried out, feigning horror. "Are you really that desperate to escape justice? You were the one who killed her!"

"Heh. How long are you going to keep up this act, Phoebe?" Phoenix shot her a glacial stare. "When I first returned to this family, I was treated like garbage. Tell me, how exactly did I manage to get the keys to a luxury sports car and run someone down?"

"You were jealous of Phoebe, so you stole her car! When you crashed it, you tried to pin it on her!" Warren pulled Phoebe into a protective embrace. "Phoenix, you are an ungrateful stray. We fed you, we clothed you, and this is how you repay us? By tearing our family apart?"

Phoenix closed her eyes, refusing to waste her breath on them. She looked directly at Alistair. "With your intelligence, you easily saw through the holes in their story. Didn't you?"

Alistair's expression stiffened. A flicker of guilt flashed in his eyes.

Catching that micro-expression, Phoenix smiled a bitter, broken smile. "Good. Perfect. You knew all along I was innocent. But you never said a single word to defend me."

"Oh, right! Why would you? You only care about profit. Back then, I was a useless country bumpkin. I wasn't worth your time."

"But when I got out of prison, when I showed my teeth and aligned myself with Pierce and Ignis Global, suddenly you were ready to back me. Because I finally had value to the Prescott name."

"And now that I'm caught in a PR nightmare, now that I'm about to be dragged through the mud, you revert right back to form. To protect your precious reputation, you publicly severed ties with me and threw me to the wolves."

"Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful."

Her voice trembled, every word dripping with blood and profound betrayal.

Even though Pierce knew she was playing a part, a sharp ache still pierced his chest.

He stepped forward, pulling her firmly against him. His voice was devastatingly gentle. "Phoenix. If they won't protect you, I will."

Phoenix looked up, meeting his unwavering gaze. She smiled. "We started out as strangers... but somehow, you've acted more like family than they ever have."

"No." Pierce's icy gaze swept across the room, locking onto every face. "From the moment we became husband and wife, I became your family."
