Vanessa's face stiffened, a flash of guilt crossing her eyes before it twisted into humiliated rage. "Why bring up the past! We may have owed you, but didn't your father give you millions of dollars? Wasn't that enough to shut your mouth?"
"Sure." Phoenix turned and walked toward the living room, her tone so indifferent it was terrifying. "Then how about I give you millions of dollars, and we send Phoebe to prison for a few years?"
"You're crazy!" Vanessa screamed, rushing forward and desperately grabbing the hem of Phoenix's shirt. "Phoebe is fragile and delicate. How could she survive a place like that?! Phoenix, you need to know when to stop!"
"Let go." Phoenix glanced back, her gaze as terrifying as a demon's.
Vanessa shuddered at the look and instinctively released her grip.
"Didn't you just say I was trying to steal Phoebe's things? Fine, let's call the cops." Phoenix pulled out her phone, her fingers rapidly dialing 911. "Let's let the police figure out who's stealing from whom."
"The police?!" Vanessa turned pale with fright and reached out to snatch the phone, but Phoenix neatly sidestepped her.
"Phoenix! Have you no shame! The Prescott family has a reputation to uphold. Family scandals shouldn't be aired in public, and you insist on making us a laughingstock for the entire social circle?!" Vanessa shrieked harshly. "Hang up the phone right now!"
"Sorry, but my biggest pet peeve is being threatened." A meaningful smile played on Phoenix's lips as she pressed the call button right in front of her.
"Hello, 911? I'd like to report a crime. Someone broke into my home and stole jewelry worth over a million dollars."
Vanessa and Phoebe were completely dumbfounded. This lunatic was actually calling the cops? And playing the victim on top of it?!
"Lawrence, keep an eye on the suspect. If anyone lets her leave, I'll hold you personally responsible," Phoenix ordered, exuding an overwhelming authority.
Lawrence wouldn't dare slack off. He immediately brought over several bodyguards, surrounding Phoebe completely.
"Phoenix! What are you doing!" Vanessa trembled with rage. "You couldn't steal the jewelry, so now you're framing Phoebe! You bitch, how can your heart be so vicious?!"
"Vicious?" Phoenix scoffed coldly. "Vanessa, four years ago when you sent me to prison, why didn't you think you were vicious?"
"Mom, I don't want them anymore..." Phoebe sobbed pitifully, looking as if she had suffered the greatest injustice in the world. "Even though I love the gifts Dad and Julian got me, for the sake of this family, so you and Phoenix don't fight, I'll just give them up..."
"Oh, Phoebe! How can you be so understanding!" Vanessa was heartbroken, tears streaming down her face. She turned and glared viciously at Phoenix. "Some people are just ungrateful wolves! Don't be afraid, Phoebe. Since your father and brother bought these for you, not even God himself could take them away!"
"Exactly! I can testify to that!" Vanessa sprang to her feet, looking utterly righteous. "Officers, this is a family matter and shouldn't have troubled you. But this rebellious daughter insists on framing her own sister. To teach her a lesson, I demand she be severely punished!"
The two officers exchanged a glance, clearly picking up on the intense hostility within the family.
"If this is a family dispute, we suggest... it might be better to settle this internally."
"I refuse!" Vanessa stated categorically, her venomous gaze locked onto Phoenix. "I demand that a case be opened and handled according to the law! Show no leniency!"
Clap, clap, clap.
Phoenix began to clap slowly, the smile on her lips dripping with pure sarcasm.
"Vanessa is truly placing righteousness above family ties. Such dedication is moving. However—" Her tone shifted sharply, her eyes turning piercingly fierce, "I just hope in a few minutes, you won't regret this."
"Regret?" Vanessa narrowed her eyes and sneered. "You're the one who will regret this! I gave you a chance, but you're digging your own grave. Now, I'll give you exactly what you asked for and teach you a lesson you'll never forget!"
