Chapter 203 I’ve Got This

Chapter 203 I’ve Got This

Autumn never wore perfume. Even her soap and shampoo were unscented.

So where the hell was the smell coming from?

A scent… Fragrance… Perfume…. Wait. She’d just had vanilla coffee.

Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me.

She finally figured it out.

She’d been with Leonel and Beckett, sure. But neither of them matched the description. She was the only one who did. Add the vanilla scent, and they could track her like bloodhounds.

Autumn ducked back into her storage space and immediately scrubbed herself from head to toe. Thank God for the storage space Without it, there was no way she’d shake them.

“Huh? He was here.” A handful of Matthew’s men stopped where the trail suddenly went cold. One of them frowned. “How does someone just disappear like that?”

Someone smacked him upside the head. “Quit whining. Mr. York wants this one alive.”

“Yeah, but why? We’ve been running around in acid rain for hours,” the man grumbled and frowned. “Do you think he’s the thief who raided the plantation?”

“Can’t be. The order was to bring him back unharmed.” He glanced around before adding, “Honestly, it sounds more like Mr. York’s chasing someone he’s got a thing for.”

The group fell silent.

Then again, Matthew wasn’t exactly what most people would call normal. If he’d fallen for a guy, nobody would be all that Surprised.

Those rich people were all a little weird anyway.

A few minutes later, Autumn stepped back out of her storage space. Just as she’d guessed, Matthew’s men had completely lost her

rail.

She finally let out a relieved breath.

Who would’ve thought it’d be the coffee?

Then another thought crossed her mind.

How did Matthew know I’d be watching Emily’s husband hunt in the first place?

Autumn didn’t make it back until evening.

The second she walked through the door, she groaned. “I’m starving! Today was brutal. That Matthew’s got a nose like a bloodhound. The second he caught my scent, he wouldn’t let go.”

Leonel slid a plate of food in front of her and watched her tear into it. “So how’d he keep finding you?”

“Don’t even ask. The coffee was the problem. He never stopped suspecting you two,” Autumn spoke between bites. “We’re done here. We need to move. I’m betting Matthew eventually traces you back here. He’s seen both of you. And once he starts digging into us, the Yorks will get involved. From there, it’s not a big leap to connect me to the break-in at their villa.”

“She’s right.” Beckett came downstairs. “We’ve stayed here long enough.”

Silas frowned. “But we still have inventory left.”

“We leave it.” Autumn looked genuinely pained saying it. “We’ve made enough. It’s not worth risking everything for a little more. The central shelter isn’t a target we can take head-on.”

Leonel nodded. “Agreed. Silas, you’ve got three days to sell what you can. If there’s anything left, we’ll deal with it later. The rest of you start packing. Leave in small groups and wait for us outside the shelter.”

“Two days.” Beckett cut him off. “No more than that. Start now.”

Silas straightened immediately. “Got it.”

Autumn polished off the last bite of dinner before speaking again. “We’re not leaving empty-handed. Let’s make this place tear tself apart. If we can get the three families fighting each other, they’ll be too busy to worry about Aurora Base. We keep our heads down, build our strength, and wait.” After a pause, she sighed. “We’ve been gone a long time. I wonder how Scott’s holding up back

10me.”

.eonel smiled. “He managed a city with millions of people. Our eighty-something thousand won’t break him.”

Beckett nodded. “My people are still there keeping order. Nobody’s going to start a riot.”

Good.” A dangerous smile spread across Autumn’s face. “Then before we leave, let’s kill Gordon. The second he dies, Griffin takes over. The Carters, the Blakes, and the Yorks won’t accept that. And with the coal mine gone, the Gounds lose their biggest idvantage. They’ll tear each other apart fighting for control.”

eonel frowned. “But how? Gordon barely leaves the house without an army of bodyguards.”

leckett nodded. “It won’t be easy. But we can try.”

I’ll handle it.” Autumn didn’t hesitate. “I started this mess, so I’ll finish it.”

Just don’t force it,” Beckett said. “If the opportunity isn’t there, it’s best to walk away.”

he grinned. “I know. I’ve got this.”
