“I don’t know how to write one! Why don’t you write it for me?” Autumn pulled a strawberry cake out of her storage space and shoved it into Kayla’s hands. “Come on, we’re like family. Help me out!”
The sweet smell of the strawberry cake made Kayla’s mouth water.
The high-calorie cream she used to look down on had now become a luxury she couldn’t get.
Kayla had always had a sweet tooth, and she hadn’t had dessert in who knew how long. She could hardly resist it.
After struggling with herself for a while, she finally said, “Fine. You write the draft, and I’ll edit and polish it.”
“Awesome!” Autumn grabbed the paper and pen and scribbled away in no time.
She pushed the paper over to Kayla. “I’m counting on you!”
Kayla stared at the large sheet of paper. There were only three lonely lines on it. “This is your 5,000-word reflection letter?”
“Yep!” Autumn nodded. “That’s all I’ve got. You can just polish it up a little.”
“Autumn…” Kayla rubbed her forehead. “These three lines don’t even come close to 200 words. Turning 200 words into a 5,000- word essay is asking for a miracle! No amount of editing is going to stretch this into a 5,000-word reflection letter. Didn’t you ever write essays in school? The minimum was like 800 words, wasn’t it?”
Autumn said awkwardly, “I only finished high school, and that was so many years ago. I forgot all of it long ago.”
Kayla looked at her speechlessly, then at the three-line reflection letter. After struggling with her conscience for a while, she finally gave in. For the sake of the strawberry cake, she agreed to polish and flesh it out for her despite her guilty conscience.
The next day, Autumn walked into Scott’s office with her head held high and her reflection letter in hand, only to find Beckett and Leonel already there.
“Let me see yours.” Autumn made herself right at home, snatching their reflection letters.
One glance told her everything.
Beckett’s wasn’t really a reflection letter. It was a debrief. Page after page described how he planned, laid out, executed, wrapped up, and provided cover for Autumn.
It was well written and super clear-something Autumn could never have summarized on her own.
Then she looked at Leonel’s letter. Well, the phrasing was gorgeous, full of flowery rhetoric, but contained zero substance. Pure filler from start to finish.
That really was exactly their style.
“Let’s see yours.” Beckett took Autumn’s reflection letter and barely glanced at it before saying, “You didn’t write this, did you? Like you’d ever have an attitude this humble or actually admit you were wrong.”
Leonel chimed in, “It’s obviously fake. If you ever learned your lesson, pigs would fly. This phrasing? Obviously a teacher wrote it. You definitely hired a ghostwriter, didn’t you?”

Autumn immediately snatched it back. “You guys are just jealous because you couldn’t find anyone to write yours for you!”
The three of them were still joking around when someone outside suddenly shouted, “Look! What’s that?”
Autumn pulled out her binoculars for a look, and her expression changed instantly. “Pass the order! Everyone fall back into the caves! Get the heavy weapons in position! Ammunition ready! All soldiers to your positions! Machine gunners, move!”
“What’s going on?” Leonel asked.
“Mutant animals are coming!” Autumn said grimly. “Mutant plants won’t be far behind. Dammit! Didn’t we already clear the area? How did some of them slip through the cracks? Only people who’ve eaten human flesh attract mutant animals and plants!”
Beckett spat out a curse. Without wasting another second on words, he turned and rushed off to deploy the troops.
When it came to warfare, he was the expert.
Autumn took a deep breath. “Leonel, our defensive battle is about to begin!”
Scott hurried over just in time to hear the conversation. His face immediately filled with worry. “We just had a few days of peace. How is everything falling apart again so soon?”
Autumn comforted him. “At least it proves the acid rain season is finally coming to an end.”
“I’d rather it kept raining,” Scott grumbled. “At least our lives wouldn’t be on the line.”
‘Enough complaining. Get ready to fight. Our enemies this time aren’t human, they’re mutant animals and plants.” Autumn mmediately began issuing orders. “Secure all the acid rain we’ve stored. It’s deadly to us, but to mutant animals and plants, it’s ike a super tonic.”
Leonel quickly said, “Then get it into your storage space. That’s the safest place.”
‘Got it. I’ll take care of it now.” Autumn nodded. “Alright, time to work.”
The entire base sprang into action.
Everyone returned to their posts in an orderly way.
The civilians headed back to their rooms to keep themselves safe.
All the soldiers took the field to take turns participating in the battle.
Every weapon was in position, and every soldier stood ready.
War could break out at any moment.
Beckett stood beside Autumn and asked, “Our weapons work on them, right?”
