Chapter 241 Hope for the Best

Leonel nodded. “Understood. So how much should we charge?”

Autumn’s eyes gleamed. “As much as we can squeeze out of them, obviously.” She let out a wicked laugh.

Leonel laughed along with her. “Alright, I know what to do. Take inventory on your end, and I’ll have James send them a quote.”

“No problem,” Autumn agreed immediately.

Sure enough.

Three days later.

Representatives from the central shelter arrived to finalize the deal, bringing Autumn a letter from Matthew as well.

Autumn had no patience for it and nearly threw it aside, but after a moment’s thought, she forced herself to read it despite her disgust.

Matthew opened with a long-winded speech about how much he missed her before finally getting to the point.

He explained that the water level around the central shelter was also rising rapidly, so several families were considering abandoning it and relocating northwest. He invited Autumn to leave with him and filled the rest of the letter with nonsense about protecting her.

Autumn curled her lip and tossed the letter into the trash.

As if she needed some pretty boy to protect her.

He had some nerve underestimating her.

Autumn handed the prepared helicopters over to Leonel, then went straight to Scott to ask how the ship renovations were coming

along.

“The rooms are finished. Now we’re just moving in furniture and supplies,” Scott replied. “We’re short on time, but we still need to be careful. If there are packs of sharks in the ocean, there are bound to be other massive creatures too. If the ship isn’t sturdy enough and something capsizes it, we’re done for.”

Autumn nodded. “Exactly. Tell me what you’re missing, and I’ll do my best to get it.”

“Actually, there is something I need to discuss with you,” Scott said. “The central shelter sent someone over to ask whether they could evacuate with us and travel to the northwestern shelter together. What do you think?”

“You agreed?” Autumn asked.

“Of course not.” Scott rolled his eyes. “I don’t want extra baggage. We’re only at peace with the central shelter for now. The moment something goes wrong, we’ll probably end up fighting sooner or later. More importantly, I don’t think they can evacuate everyone. When the time comes, there’ll definitely be riots over there. We can’t let ourselves get dragged into that mess.”

Autumn smiled.

See? Everyone understands the situation perfectly.

Scott’s expression turned serious. “I’m not exaggerating. The central shelter isn’t united like we are. They’re practically warlords, ind every faction looks out for itself. People with value will be taken along. Those without it will be abandoned. We’re different. We’re going to do everything we can to take everyone with us. Older people and children stilt have value and deserve to survive. A ot of older people have incredible practical knowledge. Some of them even lived through hard times before. We should be asking hem how to survive without modern technology.”

‘Of course,” Autumn said. “I never said I disagreed. You don’thave to explain all that.”

Scott gave an awkward smile. “I was worried you’d see them as dead weight and refuse to take them.”

‘As long as saving someone doesn’t put my life in danger, I don’t mind helping one more person,” Autumn said. “But if it puts me at isk, I won’t hesitate to protect myself first.”

‘I know. I understand,” Scott said quickly. “We all feel the same way. We’ll do everything we can and hope for the best.”

‘So how are you planning to turn down the central shelter’s invitation? Aren’t you worried they’ll stop trading with us if you refuse? heard you’ve made a huge batch of vegetable patties and plan to sell them at a premium,” Autumn said.

Why turn them down?” Scott looked surprised. “We can simply not respond or tell them we’re still considering it. How long we consider it and what decision we eventually make are both up to us, aren’t they? Besides, those three families at the central shelter

ren’t sincerely trying to form an alliance with us either. We’re all just keeping up appearances.”

‘You’re right.” Autumn burst out laughing. “You really see right through them.”

How could I help you run this base if I didn’t?” Scott muttered. “There’s one more thing. The shark eggs you brought back last ime were so popular that we’ve sold a lot over the past few days. Do you think you could get more?”

More?” Autumn rubbed her chin thoughtfully. “I suppose I could. I wonder whether those sharks have laid enough eggs lately.”
