“I’m sorry, son,” his father said softly, placing a hand on Markus’s shoulder. “I know how much you waited for your queen. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that you would be mated with someone like her and that our old ally Alpha Ben would make such a mistake.”

Markus nodded, sharing the sentiment. “I thought the same.”

The former king sighed, his brow furrowing in thought. “What will happen to the pack now?”

“Alpha Ben has taken the pack’s lead again,” Markus replied. “His son Alex has been demoted to a

Beta rank and is under probation. His new behavior and actions will be carefully considered. If he

mends his ways, he might get a chance to remain as a beta or even to become an alpha again. But

if not, even his role as a beta is questionable.”

His father nodded, absorbing the information. “It’s a difficult situation, but it seems you handled it

well.”

Markus looked out the window, the moon casting a gentle glow over the castle grounds. “I hope this reorganization brings stability or back to the Black Forest Pack. Especially now with these new threats of a pandemic. We are lucky to have Luna Lora at our side; but the black magic is something sinister and, despite my best attempts, I can’t locate the point of origin.”

The former king studied his son, pride mingling with concern in his eyes. “You will find it, son, as usual. I fully trust your abilities. But I want to ask you something else. How are you holding up after all this? Rejection is a horrible thing, even worse when you are mate with an unworthy person.”

Markus sighed, the weight of the day’s events pressing heavily on him. “It’s been a lot to process. The deception, the betrayal… it’s taken a toll. But I won’t let it deter me. We have to keep moving forward, for the sake of the packs and the kingdom. Considering what happened, I will give myself and my wolf a few months, but I will look seriously for a chosen mate. I have a duty towards this pack, towards our heritage.”

His father nodded solemnly. “Remember, son, you’re not alone in this. The royal pack stands with you, and we’ll support you through every challenge. I know that you waited your fated one, but we need to remain hopeful that the Moon Goddess with bless you next time with a worthy mate.”

Markus felt a flicker of warmth at his father’s words. Despite the heartbreak and the pain, he knew he had the strength and the support to overcome these trials.

Back at the Black Forest Pack, the situation was far from calm. The pack members were enraged at Alena and Alex, and Alpha Ben could barely handle the chaos and keep it under control. To his shock and sadness, more than 20 families had already submitted transfer requests to other packs.

This was a devastating blow, one that threatened the very foundation of their pack.

In his office, Alpha Ben sat with his Luna, Clara, Alex and their old friends, the Blacks. The tension in

T the room was palpable. Before Markus’ departure, he had given them three months to mend their

ways, warning that if they failed, he would withdraw from any treaty with them, a near-certain

death sentence in their world.

Ava Black, her voice heavy with sorrow, asked, “What will happen to my daughter now?”

Alpha Ben’s response was curt and filled with frustration. “She is at an omega rank now.”

Ava wanted to argue, but before she could, Alpha Ben exploded, “You don’t have any shame, woman. After all her acts, she would have deserved imprisonment for life or banishment. But she remains part of this pack solely due to our long friendship and the fact that she lost our wolf/and she is helpless. Don’t push it. Your daughter caused her own sister’s death with her unforgivable

actions.”

The Blacks left and Luna Clara as well. Their heads hung in shame, leaving Alpha Ben alone with Alex, who was a broken man. That morning, Alex had woken up and made love to his beautiful mate, Alena before preparing for the king’s visit. Little did he know that, within a few hours, his life would be in shambles, and he would lose everything he held dear.

Alpha Ben interrupted Alex’s thoughts, looking at him with a disappointed gaze. “This is what happens when you try to ignore the Goddess’s way. When you told me that you wanted to reject Elora, I asked you if you were sure. But now, I am ashamed of your judgment. Despite still being a mate with her, you continued to sleep with her sister. This is a different level of cruelty, son. The girl had already lost everything at that time: becoming an omega, her university dreams and her mate. You just had to twist the knife and bring her more agony.”

“I never meant to make her suffer,” Alex replied in a low tone, but looking at his father he saw him

shaking his head in disappointment.

Alex took a deep breath, his heart squeezing in pain as memories of Elora’s last moments flooded back. He remembered how his fated mate was slapped, abused, ignored, and left to die. A part of him had died that day, and now, without Alena’s bond, he felt more empty than ever. The realization that Alena had never truly loved him, and that he had been nothing more than a tool in her hands,

hit him with bitter clarity.

He recalled the shock and betrayal he felt earlier today when she completely disregarded him and wanted to accept the king’s bond. His heart ached as he remembered the venom in her voice

when she spoke about Elora, revealing her true nature.

Alpha Ben, sensing his son’s turmoil, placed a hand on his shoulder. “You need to learn from this,

Alex. The path you chose led to this destruction. It’s time to make amends and find a way to honor the goddess’s will, even if it takes a lifetime. And honestly, looking now at you and the decisions you took during your Alpha years, the probability of becoming Alpha again is low. Maybe it is our fault, maybe we spoiled you too much, but trust me, from now on you will need to earn your spot in this pack and not inherit it.”

Alex nodded slowly, the weight of his father’s words settling heavily on his shoulders. He knew he had a long road ahead of him, filled with regret and atonement. As he left his father’s office, he vowed to himself that he would find a way to make things right, to rebuild not just his standing in the pack, but also his shattered soul.

He wished that he could be given a new chance to correct his actions towards Elora, but now it was just too late.
