Courtship Rules-1

When Markus returned to the castle, he already had a plan formed in his mind. He reined in his dominant instinct to go directly to his mother and lash out, knowing that would get him nowhere. He was not King for nothing; he had enough experience from almost a century of life to know when something was being orchestrated under his nose. His fault from the last period was that he was being too focused on Kaia to pay attention to what was happening around him. But no worries, he would defeat them at their own game.
Once inside, he made his way to his bedroom to take a shower, wash the dirt and clear his head. In the meantime, he mind linked his Beta, Atlas. “Atlas, I need you to find out the details of the Royal Courtship and what my mother and her minions have arranged. Also, how did Kaia find out about the courtship when she met the Queen? I need every detail possible.”
“I’m on it,” Atlas replied. “Give me some time.”
Markus entered the shower, and as the hot water cascaded over him, he tried to clear his head. Despite his attempts to calm down, his rage was still palpable. He felt torn without Kaia, like a part
of him was missing.
As he was getting dressed, his phone rang. He saw that it was Azriel. Taking a long breath, he answered, but before he could say anything, Azriel’s angry voice blasted through the line.
“Damn it, Markus! I warned you not to hurt her. What the hell did you do to her? Tim told me that she cried the entire trip and once she arrived, she just locked herself in her room, saying she needed privacy. I warned you, Markus! I swear to the goddess that-”
“Azriel, I feel the same as Kaia, but I will fix this,” Markus interrupted. “I am determined to make her
my mate.”
Azriel was silent for a moment before asking, “Are you sure, Markus? Your family? The society? It
will be hell for her.”
“She would make a fantastic queen, and I will be there for her every step of the way,” Markus
replied with conviction.
“You better be, otherwise, friend or King, I will cut your balls!” Azriel responded before cutting the
call.
After the call, Markus felt a pang in his chest, hearing that Kaia was suffering. But at the same
time, it gave him hope, meaning she cared about him.
Determined, he got dressed and headed to the main library to strategize and do some reading. But

one thing he knew for sure: he needed to dismantle the Royal courtship protocol from within, and if needed, the Council itself. He also needed to clear up the misunderstanding with Kaia, but that would come once he had secured her place by his side.
Hours passed, and finally, Atlas’ mind linked back. “Markus, I found out that the Royal Courtship is set to start in a week. Your mother and her allies have arranged for a series of challenges and tests, most of which seem designed to favor certain candidates. Kaia found out about the Courtship during the Queen’s tea party. But from my sources, it was clear that it was an ambush.”
Markus’s jaw tightened, “What do you mean by ambush?”
Atlas sighed and explained, “She was invited to a tea where more than 20 noble girls were in attendance. The others acted superior, making her feel out of place. Then the Queen put on a show, announcing the Royal Courtship, which was a bit strange, especially since all the others already knew about the event. She also announced the pre-screening tests, including physical check-ups and more!
It was a clear setup to make her feel uncomfortable, unsuitable and inferior.”
Markus’s rage simmered as he listened to Atlas. After thanking his Beta, he was left alone with his
thoughts, disappointed and angered. He couldn’t fathom why his mother didn’t like Kaia. He knew
she favored Angelica, but not to that extent. There was one thing left for him to do: confront his
mother and assess her honesty.
